Unleash that animal in you

Hi there! Hope you’re all enjoying your holiday sales. I know I am (hint: if the sale assistants at Banana Republic know you by your first name, that’s probably a sign you spend way too much time–and money–in that store). Ahem. But were was I? Oh, I know. My renewed obsession with animal prints.

It all started innocently enough with my routine browsing of the Neiman Marcus online collection (there’s no Neiman in the vicinity of Philly, so yep, I have to go online). And so it was that I discovered these faaahbulous Lambertson Truex tall leopard print suede boots and I started drooling with desire. I know they’re $645, thank you, but! gorgeous! sex-ay! sensible heel! Can you imagine yourself slinking through the urban jungle in these? Well, I can, and it’s an image I’m very fond of.

It kinda went downhill from there, as I discovered these Dolce & Gabbana zebra print loafers, and my heart started pumping dangerously fast:

So by the time I stumbled across these cream zebra print Manolo Blahnik flats, I would have sold my soul to the devil for one of these pairs. Ok, maybe not ‘eternal damnation’ sold, but perhaps in a ‘work for Anna Wintour for a month’ way.

I do have in fact a pair of sensible Donald J. Pliner leopard print loafers with black leather trim and red sole  (these), but somehow they don’t feel either glamorous nor over-the-top, like I feel right now. I feel a shopping spree coming up….

Tis the season of over-the-top

Posted by shoesense in Flats, General, J. Rene Shoes

I can’t let these holidays pass without mentioning these St. Nick pumps from J. Rene. They’re laced with ho-ho-ho’s all around and sport the picture of your favorite fat guy on the vamp, tastefully surrounded by holly leaves. Oh, there’s also an acrylic heel with red and white tassels, for your full holiday enjoyment. It can all be yours for $53–33% off at Nordstroms. But my suggestion is to skip them altogether. I doubt that even Santa would approve of this tacky footwear–leave it for the elves, dear!

Royal Anthropologie ‘Malory’ Boots

Posted by shoesense in Anna Sui Shoes, Anthropologie, Boots

Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and all that from ShoeLand! Hope you’ve had your share of Christmas dishes—I know I did, and won’t be looking to, ahem, buy any clothes in MY ORIGINAL SIZE any time soon, if you know what I mean. But, the good news is that I haven’t changed my shoe size–thank God!–and I can take some satisfaction in the post-Christmas shopping rush.

And so I propose to you these etched leather tall boots from Anna Sui, in a royal shade of navy. These will allow you to strut your stuff (even the recently acquired few extra pounds) with majestic dignity, with the right touch of flirt. The sturdy heel will allow you to stand tall and confident and the intricate patterns will keep passers-by infinitely interested in your gams. Definitely a show-stopper. Grab them at Anthropologie for $348.

Citrus! Pumps!

I just think these pumps from Anthropologie are simply adorable. Retro chic, with luscious leather, rounded toe, and the funky triangular low heels–very very refreshing, indeed (also available in a cheerful canary yellow). These are shoes in which to bring the good times on–and maybe, just maybe, steal a kiss under the mistletoe. The sale price ($160, down from $260) also sweetens the deal

Saccharine Kate Spade Mary-Janes

Posted by shoesense in Flats, Kate Spade Shoes

I’m miffed about these satin Kate Spade Mary-Janes (available in pink or lime green on Bluefly). On the one hand, the concept is right: they’re made of a glorious satin, beribboned, a cute color, look comfortable, and they’re Mary-Janes, of course (one of my favorite styles). Even the price is sweet, just under $100, down from $275. However, it’s the oversized ribbon that’s souring the deal for me. It’s overpowering the vamp and it’s WAY in your face. It’s too much piled together, in other words: the neon color, the shiny fabric, the huge ribbon…aahhh….saccharine overload…must…avert….eye….
