As an offshoot of Nike Shoes, the brand Cole Haan is know for their comfortable ‘Air’ shoes. Yet, aesthetics haven’t always kept up with the trends. I’m happy to see that the Cole Haan Violet Air Ox Lace-Up Ankle Boot ($207.99 at Saks) is not only classy but also unique and fun.
This ankle boot is kind of a play on traditional Oxfords – and I absolutely love Oxfords. Here, however, the old design is given a new style. Cole Haan has taken something classic and time-tested, and turned it into something modern, edgy, and extremely fun. Sometimes, sorry to say and as much as I love them, Oxfords can look kind of like old lady shoes. Some of the older designs put me in mind of old-fashioned librarians and schoolteachers. That’s no bad thing, necessarily, but it does create a bit of a stigma in regard to the style.
That is definitely not a worry here. These Oxford style ankle boots are new and totally now. They have an inarguable femininity, thanks to the silhouette, the stitching detail, and the heel. Speaking of which, it is self covered, and measures out to a somewhat modest 3 and ½ inches, or 95 millimeters. It has a ¾ inch hidden platform as well, for added stability; that one measures out to about 20 millimeters. The insole is padded and lined in leather.
This suggests to me that Oxfords may be coming back with a vengeance. What’s your favorite shoe trend from the past? Is there anything you wish would make a comeback?
