Alexander McQueen Shoes & Accessories for Spring 2010

posted by: brianka in General on April 3rd, 2010

Many of us were shocked and saddened by the tragic and unexpected loss of Alexander McQueen’s unique fashion voice.

For good or ill, it looks like the design house will be continuing under the McQueen name – at least for the near future. I admit that I am torn on this. McQueen was one of the designers who convinced me it was worthwhile to pay attention to formal runway fashion rather than just primarily watching the fringe fashion scenes.  So, I understand the attempt to honor his creative vision by continuing to keep his name present in the fashion community. By the same token, I have to agree with those who have noted that any designer worth continuing the McQueen legacy is probably also a designer that is talented enough that he or she deserves to be recognized on their own merits under their own name.

But, all speculation aside, this spring’s retail offerings will be among the last items available where we as consumers and McQueen fans will have an opportunity to own a piece ‘approved by’ the original designer.  Items produced as we head into the future may or may not have genesis from his own sketches or prior work. It is highly unlikely that anything produced after fall 2010 will be able to claim any sort of concrete approval from McQueen himself.

This is the one item I still hope will be produced, although I have yet to see any sign of it in the online retail scene:

Until then, (fingers crossed), here are some highlights of currently Alexander McQueen stock that might be of interest.

My first and favorite pick is actually not a shoe, but a bracelet:

Alexander McQueen snake-embossed leather bracelet $294 at Zappos.com

Alexander McQueen patent leather and skull wrap bracelet $220 at Saks.

Alexander McQueen python and skull wrap bracelet $290 on pre-order at Saks.

I love these. I can actually make room for one in a future budget. How do I envision wearing it? As a choker with a bright summer dress.

My next pick has got to be these open-toed boots:

Alexander McQueen cuffed lace-up ankle boots $1085 at Saks, $1089 in black at Zappos.

Another lust-worthy pick are these Moto-chic boots. I definitely prefer this olive version to the oft-copied black version seen last year:

Alexander McQueen peep-toe moto boot $1134 at Zappos.com

Other picks?

Well, I love the whole skulls theme that is incorporated into so many of McQueen’s pieces. I’m also a sucker for roses. So, when the two are combined…I am left with the notion of selling extraneous body parts to acquire one of these rose-and-skull beauties. Okay, maybe not, but you get the idea.

Boots:

Alexander McQueen Skull and Rose boots $1169 at Zappos.

And bags:

Alexander McQueen zipper-detail skull and roses bag $1654 at Zappos.com

Alexander McQueen Camouflage Skull and Rose tote $930 at Saks.com

Blasphemous as it may be for a shoe-lover like me to say, but I think I would choose that first bag over the boots; I know that I would wear it with everything, everyday, for weeks at a stretch.

Final picks? Well, it’s hard to go wrong with skulls and zippers for that unmistakable McQueen attitude:

Alexander McQueen Skull peep-toe pumps $875 at Saks.com & $879 at Zappos.

Alexander McQueen skull and zipper pumps $583.20 $899 at Zappos.

Kett – About what I was afraid of. Too spendy for me this year & not likely to show up online or on a reasonable aftermarket deal. Sigh. Still, if anyone sees them show up IRL, let me know.

Jenna – There are several of the McQueen zipper-detailed shoes & boots at Zappos right now. Flats, heels & boots. If you like it, it's a great time to get a cute pair.

The peep-toe moto boot is HOT. The olive green is definitely more interesting than black. Also love the last pair with the zipper styling. So simple but very sexy and daring.

The ballerina/steampunk shoe will be in production though only a limited run. You can only purchase it at the boutiques and it will run you almost 2k. Should be released shortly.

AWS – Always loved McQueen – sad to have lost his talent, but don't regret what he created.

LOVE the open-toe boots with the lace-up and grommets. In green, of course. I can't prove it. But, I'm pretty positive I could rule the world in those boots.
