Alexander McQueen’s Runway Shoes

Posted by r5bales in General

Alexander McQueen created quite a buzz with his statement shoes this fall.  I never really thought we would see them anywhere on the red carpet.  I was wrong.  Thursday was the launch party of the NARS 15x15 Project.  A book project of 15 portraits of celebrities to celebrate of 15 years of NARS.  In attendance were the Alexander McQueen shoes, oh yeah, and Daphne Guiness.   The party had an ecclectic group of creative people.

I think she and Lady Gaga are probably the only two people in the world who could wear them with a straight face.  Incidentally, Lady Gaga wears a couple of McQueen runway shoes in her latest music video Bad Romance.  Here are the shoes she wears.

There were more, but I lost patience after a while. I don’t …get… lady Gaga,  but this video looks like a high fashion show. Here is the video.

While I am at it, I included an old George Michael music video just for fun.

Ya gotta love Thierry Mugler.

Catherine Zeta Jones in YSL

Posted by r5bales in General, High heels, Platforms, Pumps, Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) Shoes

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Landsbury were at the Etcetera Etcetra Restaurant as part of “A Little Night Music” celebrations.  When I grow up I want to be like Angela.  I can’t tell what kind of shoe she is wearing, however I will assume they are low heeled pumps because Ms. Landsbury is 84 and I can’t imagine her tottering about in platforms.  She is beautiful.

Catherine Zeta-Jones is wearing a black Alexander McQueen dress, also seen on Anna Paquin and Cameron Diaz, with red accessories.  I used to think this was a wonderful way to put an outfit together but I have seen it too many times, so has become a “safe” way to put an outfit together.  That being said, since this dress has red piping on the zipper this works better than most.

CZJ’s shoes are Yves Saint Laurent Eelskin pumps, $875 at Bergdorf Goodman.  Gorgeous.  YSL hit a home run with their Trib and Trib 2, but it is refreshing to see a celebrity wearing something different.

LOVE the color; love the shape; love the material.

These are my Holiday Lust Shoes.

A Shoe Showdown: Comfortable Footwear

Posted by r5bales in Cole Haan Shoes, General, Kenneth Cole, Naturalizer Shoes, Taryn Rose Shoes

It has been a couple of weeks since I read this, but with Shomore’s review of the new Kenneth Cole technology, I recalled this article in the Chicago Tribune about a showdown with four shoes and their comfort levels.   Here’s the set up:  Ellen Warren purchased 4 pairs of shoes, then 4 women wore them, giving their assessment of each shoe.  Here are the shoes in comfort order.

Naturalizer’s Magee $70 at Naturalizer.com

Cole Haan Air Lyric Maryjane pump  $182 at Zappos.com

Kenneth Cole Stud Bolt   was $175 at Kennethcole.com but this style isn’t available anymore.  The Stud Bolt does not seem to be a part of the 925 series.  The “hype” mentions that the technology was 4 years in the making, but I couldn’t find the shoe listing any longer.

Taryn Rose Diles $475 at Endless.com

It is a great article with wonderful information.  Read the entire article at Sexy Shoe Showdown.

Jimmy Choo for H&M: A first look

Posted by r5bales in Jimmy Choo Shoes

We have all been waiting for photos of the Jimmy Choo line that will be sold in select H&M stores on November 14, 2009.  Here are some of the latest, released shoe and handbag photos.  There is lots of sparkle and shine for the holiday season, priced around $129.

General reaction has been mixed.  Some say that the only reason they will be purchased is because they are Jimmy Choos, some say these styles are just more of the same, others say they are fab.   What do you think?

Justin Bieber on Today and Vans Shoe History

Posted by r5bales in Shoe History Corner

Justin Bieber performed on NBC’s “Today” at Rockefeller Center Monday.   He is a cute young Canadian boy with lots of cute young girls cheering for him.

He is wearing Vans sk8 mid top.  About $50 from Vans.com.

In 1966’s a group of men started manufacturing athletic shoes in southern California then sold them directly to the consumers.  Vans offered three styles, priced from $2.49 to $4.99, but on the day the first store opened for business, the company only made display models. The store racks were filled with empty boxes. Nevertheless, 12 customers came into the store and chose the colors and styles they wanted. The customers were asked to come back in the afternoon, while James Van Doren and Gordy Lee rushed to the factory to make their shoes.

When the customers returned to pick up the shoes, Van Doren and Lee realized that they had no money available to make change. The customers were given the shoes and asked to return the next day to pay for them.  All 12 customers did.  In 1982 a movie titled  Fast Times at Ridgemont High featured Jeff Spicoli (Sean Penn)  wearing a pair.  It made a star of both the shoes and Sean Penn.  If you were a teenager in the late 1980’s you probably had a pair.  They are still a favorite shoe of teens and tweens.

Today you can go Vans.com online to customize your shoes by choosing the style, the pattern and color of ten parts of the shoe.  The cost is $60 to $70.  They are a great shoe.
