This Week in Shoes

Posted by Shomore in This week in shoes

-The credit, financial, and mortgage crisis has me seriously worried about the impact to lives and families.  In these challenging economic times, it is tough to think about shoes, however beautiful and distracting they may be.  However, Stuart Weitzman reminded me why shoes are still relevant. Charitable donations are already hurting this year,  so if you are going to buy an extra pair of shoes, wouldn’t it be nice for it to be in support of The Stuart Weitzman Annual Celebrity Shoe Auction. Funds raised in this auction will go to support Ovarian Cancer.

Some of the celebrities who are contributing to this auction include Rachel Bilson and her feathery pump and this sweet shoe by Blake Lively.  More shoes by your favorite celebrities can be seen on the online website.

-Buying new shoes can be expensive, especially for the shrinking pocketbook.  Re-soling old shoes can be a cheaper option.  On the newly launched Save Your Sole blog (let’s hope for more tips), Matt the Cobbler offers his recommendation on men’s dress shoe brands to resole with.

-Manolo the ShoeBlogger recommends shoes for the poor girl.

London Fashion Week: Jenny Packham’s Spring 2009 Shoes are Bubblicious

Posted by Shomore in Fashion Week, Spring 2009 Shoes

I couldn’t help it. Jenny Packham’s Spring 2009 shoe colors reminded me of Bubblicious chewing gum flavors.

From clockwise left to right, all I could see were Gonzo Grape, Tropical Tango, Cotton Candy, and the Watermelon Wave flavor.

The style made me think it could pass as a d’orsay cousin of the Nine West Luxious shoes.

Te Casan Friends and Family Sale: Save 30% off

Posted by Shomore in General

To thank shoe shoppers for their patronage, the wonderful folks over at Te Casan are having a friends and family sale. From now until Sunday, September 21, enter code FAF30 during checkout to receive 30% off any full priced merchandise.

That means the puffy pom pom shoes by Natalie Portman (seen on Natalie herself and on Jenny from Gossip Girl) are now down to $269. While they are not inexpensive, I can give a little cheer to go along with those pom poms knowing that no animals were killed in the making of the shoe (it’s a vegan shoe line) and they are limited edition shoes with only 100 shoes produced. Nowadays, that seem like a more palatable price to pay for exclusivity.

Zoe Lee’s ‘Lily’ red boot with bow detail and a pleated vamp also stood out for me and would go well with a black outfit. It is now $235.

As a newlywed, I can’t tell you how much my feet ached at the end of my wedding. With these ever so dainty and gentle looking bridal flats, I’m sure I would have been much more comfortable.   The aptly named ‘Bridal Flat‘ is on sale for $185 with the friends and family coupon code.

Enjoy the F&F sale!

Shoe Fashion off the Runways

Posted by Shomore in Fashion Week

Bill Cunningham, of the NYT, has a fantastic slideshow of shoes seen on the street during fashion week.

Towards the end, I was amused to find several photos where the secret to having comfortable feet is revealed. The secret? Apparently, it is to skip stilettos altogether.

More NY Fashion Week Spring 2009 Shoes

Posted by Shomore in Fashion Week, Marc Jacobs Shoes, Nicholas Kirkwood Shoes, Rodarte Shoes, Spring 2009 Shoes

Before we dive into London fashion week, I thought it might be fun to have a look at some of the more interesting shoes seen on NY Fashion Week Spring 2009. And since the Emmys is this weekend, I thought it might be fun to dish out some shoe awards while I was at it.

Quite possibly, this is the Most Accessoried Accessory seen on the runways. Following in the footsteps of shoe designers Blahnik and Louboutin (remember these fierce shoes?) who have produced shoes for Rodarte, Nicholas Kirkwood designed these very decked out shoes. They are so ostentatious, can you imagine the stares you’d get if you wore these on a night out with the gals? I can also imagine them appearing in a rap video shortly.

Apparently, though, Nicholas Kirkwood’s heels for Rodarte aren’t very walkable. They have have gained notoriety for receiving the Most Likely to Fall in these Shoes, because well, it actually happened (near minute 7:00). The model, Abbey Lee, seems to have escaped injury this time.

Most Ill-Fitting shoes goes to Matthew Willliamson. The pinky toe and the right middle toe are just clinging on to the platform for dear life.

Finally, my Favorite Shoe from NY were by Marc Jacobs. Normally, I am not a fan of ankle straps, but these are too delicious and I want them in all the prints - weave, red glitter, silver, leather, etc. I’m a fan of the dainty teardrop-ish heel (hopefully they are easy to walk in though) and the tongue-like curvature at the heel.
