Ask the Shoeblogger: Who made Kate Middleton’s Black Patent Espadrille?

We’ve been getting a few inquiries wondering who the designer of Kate Middleton’s (or should I say the Duchess of Cambridge’s) wedding rehearsal (left) and post wedding (right) shoes is.

Answer:  The shoes are by London apparel company L.K. Bennett and are named the “Greta” wedges.  While we couldn’t find the exact pair available on sale yet,you can purchase the L.K. Bennett all patent wedge on JohnLewis.com for £150.  Lanvin also makes a beautiful pair of patent black espadrilles with a dark brown wedge for $550 at Nordies.

On a side note, can I say how refreshing it is that Kate has such sensible but stylish tastes?  Kate could go all out designer and here she is wearing the same pair of sub $350 shoes during the same week – and during her wedding week no less!   Also, I love her blue Zara dress and wish we had a Zara store here so I could run out and purchase one for myself.

Shoe Deja Vu: Brian Atwood vs. Dolce Vita

One of our readers is absolutely in love with Brian Atwood’s hidden platform pump (left) but not with the $580 price tag at Saks Fifth Avenue so she asked us to find a look-alike.   We thought that Dolce Vita Women’s Madison Platform Pump (right) was a pretty good match.  Like the Atwoods, the Madison pump is also 4 3/4 inches with a hidden platform and dare I say,the nude color actually looks better to me.   Amazon is having a cyber sale right now so the Dolce Vita pumps are on sale for 70% off, at $47.98.

Ask the ShoeBlogger: Angelina Jolie’s Boots

Reader Lindsay was interested in finding out the designer of Angelina Jolie’s boots.  Angie’s been wearing them while directing her first feature film in Budapest.

Answer: We’ve been oogling over these rugged chic boots ourselves due to their unique Y shaped buckle detail and only wish they had a side zip.  Prada makes this lug-sole motorcycle boot (Available at Saks for $850).

Ask the ShoeBlogger: Who designed those shoes in the SATC2 Movie?

With the Sex and the City 2 movie premiering this weekend, we’ve received a few “Ask the ShoeBlogger” inquiries requesting more information about the shoes and designers featured in the movie.  Rather than do individual posts for each query, we thought we’d point you in the right direction so you can find out ALL the designer outfits worn by Sarah Jessica Parker and try to answer questions on the shoes we’ve been asked to id.   Ready?

For the die-hard fashionista, the Sex and the City 2: The Stories. The Fashion. The Adventure ($19.77 at Amazon) book is a must purchase.  The book has a whopping 176 pages consisting of scene-by-scene looks of every outfit (from head to toe) that Carrie Bradshaw wears in the film and select outfits worn by her costars.  There’s also commentary provided by the stars and producers of the movie, giving you an all-access pass to the outfit selection, scene, and movie making process.  Here’s a few samples from the book along with the more detailed shots of the shoes that we found:

Ask the ShoeBlogger: Who designed Anne Hathaway’s Shoe

Shoe reader Alexandra wrote us asking:

…I was hoping you could clear something up for me. I love Anne Hathaway and I’ve always wondered who designed the shoes she is wearing in this picture.  It is from the 2008 Venice Film Festival, if that helps.

Thank you!

-Alexandra

Dearest Alexandra:

I was completely oohhing and awwing when I saw this dress on Anne Hathaway last year (the dress is by Versace if anyone is interested).  For such a stunning dress, I was happy that the shoes were so classy and understated.  They did not distract from the dress and all it’s beauty.

Unfortunately, I was unable to identify the exact shoe for you.  By now there is a high likelihood that the style has been discontinued by whoever the designer is too.  But, since I love solved mysteries, if there are any shoe readers out there who have better id’ing skills, please leave us a comment.  First person to correctly id the shoe gets a small prize from us.  :)

However, I’d like to recommend an alternative shoe for you.   They are the Via Spaga Lulus.  Although these Via Spiga sandals are not nearly as high or strappy as Anne’s, I can personally vouch for these shoes.  I wore them during my wedding photos since they were more comfortable than my ceremony/reception shoes and they are a good price for well constructed shoes from Italy.  The gold tone has also served me well – I’ve since worn the shoes on several occasions, pairing the shoes with a red dress, black gown, etc.

Via Spiga Lulu for $97 at 6pm.com or $110 at Overstock.
