What did Fall 2010 Fashion Month tell us?

Posted by r5bales in Boots, Brian Atwood, Burberry Porsum, Chanel Shoes, Christian Louboutin Shoes, Dolce & Gabbana Shoes, Dries van Noten Shoes, Fall 2010 Shoes, Fashion Week, Fendi Shoes, General, High heels, Kenzo, Marc Jacobs Shoes, Michael Kors Shoes, Nicholas Kirkwood Shoes, Platforms, Pumps, Roberto Cavalli Shoes, Rodarte Shoes, Shoe Trends, Slingbacks, Victoria Beckham Shoes

With the three major fall 2010 fashion events, New York, Milan and Paris,  concluding, there were a few shoe trends that recurred in several collections.  This is what we saw.  Mad Men curves are in.  Fur is in. Many of the big name fashion houses went with classic investment pieces that were timeless looking.  Several of the lesser known houses had some beautiful and interesting  pieces.  Let’s look at some shoes – that’s why we are all here.

Pointy toe shoes are returning, so dust off your Guess “Carrie” shoes because we will be seeing more pointy toes in the future.

Prada

Valentino.  There was a flat and a kitten heel also presented in this collection.

Louis Vuitton

While stilettoes were seen, typically  if the heel was high - especially boots -then it was a chunky heel.  I love the stability chunky heels offer.  Can you imagine tottering around in the above Vuitton shoes if  the heel was pencil thin?

Alexander Wang

Fendi

Erdem – love the print on these boots.

Not many wedges were seen, so I am guessing we will be seeing those phased out over the next couple of years.

Kenzo

Bottega Veneta featured this wedge on all the shoes.

Dries Van Noten.  I LOVE this half wedge.

With the retro girly-fication of the styles  no tough girl platforms were necessary.

Marc Jacobs

Dolce Gabbana

Carolina Herrera

Lanvin (Arguably the best line of the season.)

But lots of platforms were presented.

Christian Louboutin for Phillip Lim

Michael Kors

Burberry Prorsum

Brian Atwood for Victoria Beckham.

There must have been 10 different colors of this shoe because Mrs. Beckham likes to match her shoes to her dress.  These shoes are nice but nothing to hyper-ventilate over.  Her dresses were nice, wearable, and pretty.

Over the knee boots will be around for a while.  We saw over the knee boots in several presentations.  Since this is the fall season, we should not be surprised.

Burberry Prorsum presented some of the season’s favorite boots.

Roberto Cavalli

Statement shoes were everywhere.

If you are a chiropractor, you NEED these shoes.

Dsquared

Nicholas Kirkwood for Rodarte

Louise Goldin

Chanel.  Notice the ice heel.

Chanel’s show, in my opinion was one of the goofiest ideas I think I have ever seen.  Uncle Karl shipped a glacier from Sweden to Paris, had it sculpted it for the runway, put it on a swimming pool type platform,  then the models walked through about an inch of melting glacier water.  He presented some beautiful suits, IF you could see past the heinous fake fur that accompanied these outfits.  Global warming, glaciers melting, save the furry animals was the message of this show.  Here’s the thing. 1) Lagerfield  used more fur in Fendi than virtually any other collection, so why use cheap looking fake fur with Chanel.  2) The carbon footprint of this show was massive and the power it took to present this show could have powered a small country.  (Here is where I usually go off on my global-warming-leadership-hypocrasy tirade, but I won’t because you came here to see shoes.)

OK,  I rarely look at purses, but I WANT THIS PURSE.

Forgive me for this long post, but there were so many beautiful shoes, and even more beautiful outfits.  I wanted to show them all to you but that isn’t possible.

Shoe Showdown: Brian Atwood Lola Pumps

Posted by Shomore in Brian Atwood, Celebrity Shoe Style

Whether or not you like super skinny Rachel Zoe, stylist to the stars, you have to admit Zoe has a pretty keen eye for dressing her clients.  So it should come as no surprise when Zoe issued her first Zoe Report on Brian Atwood’s Lola Platforms, they would be a hit.  Here’s what Zoe had to say about the Atwood’s shoes:

…Atwood consistently brings my sole fantasies to life—and he has outdone himself with the Lola Platform Pumps… sexy elastic detailing and high platform—I DIE.  With fall just around the corner, these shooties* are a must-have transitional piece to help you segue through the seasons. That is, they’re relevant to your summer and fall wardrobe. To the wearer, the possibilities are endless. Lola’s eighties punk-meets-luxury aesthetic will bring your little black dress to life. The pumps are also perfect for upgrading a more casual look (think: dark skinny jeans, a tee and tuxedo jacket), so don’t be scared to rock them during the day.

As these celebrities demonstrate,  this is one versatile shoe. I wonder if any use Zoe as their stylists.

Anyways, it’s time for you to vote in the latest shoe showdown.  Who do you think rocked Brian Atwood’s Lola shoes the best – Katy Perry, Megan Fox, Jessica Stroup, or Brookyn Decker?

Brian Atwood’s Maniac

Posted by r5bales in BCBG Shoes, Brian Atwood, Endless, Fall 2009 Shoes, General, Platforms, Pumps, Stuart Weitzman Shoes, Zappos

So I was channel surfing last night and saw Kaley Cuoco on David Letterman.  She was wearing these gorgeous purple suede pumps and a little black dress. I couldn’t focus on what she was saying because I kept watching to see if the camera would show her shoes.  Here is a photo as she is leaving the Ed Sullivan Theater, covering the LBD with a satin trench.  Wonderful look.  Love the shiny trench, love the matte shoes.

The shoes are from the Brian Atwood’s 2009/2010 Fall Winter collection.  How beautiful are these shoes?  There are about 6 color variations of this shoe.

Now, I could not find any online but I found some platform pumps that are available online. A few of you have said you have given up on suede because it is discouraging to have your shoes ruined in the weather, so I included a few smooth leather shoes.

Jessica Simpson Parigi  $89 at Zappos

I bought a pair of emergency Parigi’s last April.  They are indeed high; they are indeed dramatic; they do indeed show toe cleavage. They are comparable to other shoes that are the same price.

BCBGeneration Dania $89 at Zappos

Stuart Weitzman Swoon $298 at Endless

and DKNY Hina $140 at Endlless

Notice the thicker heel here, offering better stability.  It has a heel that is about 3 inches so it could be a good work shoe.

MTV Movie Awards 2009 Red Carpet Shoes

Posted by Shomore in Brian Atwood, Celebrity Shoe Style, Christian Louboutin Shoes, Fall 2009 Shoes, Jimmy Choo Shoes, Spring 2009 Shoes, Vanessa Hudgens, ashley tisdale

The MTV Movie Awards were held over the weekend and since the weather is warm in LA, it was a perfect time to showcase minis and shoes on the red carpet.

First up is my favorite outfit of the night. By the end of this post, I would like to hear yours.   It’s worn by Sienna Miller, who wore a sparkling emerald green dress from her own line with these fabulous Nicholas Kirkwood platforms from the Spring 2009 collection.   Now, the gold sandals I couldn’t find anywhere, but if you love the style, Luisaviaaroma.com has the Kirkwood purple suede version for $664 on their site.

Ashley Tisdale went for lots of strappy in these Paul and Joe Sister ‘Gypsy’ wedge boots from the Spring/Summer 09 collection.

In the Jimmy Choo corner, Kristen Bell wore Jimmy Choo Studded ‘Blaze’ Sandals, which are $895 at Saks.

Vanessa Hudgens opted for Jimmy Choo ‘Riv’ Ethnic Sandals, on sale for $835 at Saks, with her gold dress.  One thing I’ve noticed is that I may not always like the dresses Vanessa wears, but she really rocks the accessories. The MTV Movie Awards as an excellent example of this.  The dress looks a little too much like satin sheets.  I do, however, think the Choos were an excellent choice along with the jewelry.

Not to be overshown by Jimmy Choo, Louboutin also left his footprint on the red carpet.  Two noteworthy shoes were the Christian Louboutin ‘Sometimes’ boot worn by Lauren Conrad.

And the other was Megan Fox.  With super slicked up hair, which I didn’t like, Fox arrived in the multi-buckle Louboutin sandals we saw Heidi Klum wearing at the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year.

Leighton Meester of Gossip Girls wore a mesh dress from designer Emilio de la Morena. This outfit is a huge departure from the character she plays on TV and while I love the dress, I wish she had paired it with a more spring-like shoe.  Her purple suede shoes are the ‘Brie’ style from Brian Atwoods’ FW09 collection and just seems a bit too heavy for the weather.

The most interesting selection and most easily recognized shoes worn by a celebrity during the MTV awards goes to Twilight star Kristen Stewart.  The Converse All-Star High Sneakers would not have been my choice, but according to JustJared, she twisted her ankle so I’m glad she opted for comfort and health over fashion.
