I’ve long been an admirer of Christian Lacroix creations, especially shoe-wise: they’re usually funky, fresh, creating that much-need rush of blood to the head as in “hey, that’s pretty cool!” reaction. To me, this is the go-to guy when you need something over-the-top: he does it well, but with refinement. At the Paris show he pretty much had only two shoes he had his models strut in (one shown here from two perspectives):
I guess the message is clear: shiny goes with everything! More gold! More snakeskin!!! But above all, gimme metals and beads and sparkles–I wanna SHINE!
And hey, I’m down with that–every once in a while.
Still in limbo between winter and spring? I give you something to cheer up: this gorgeous AND sensible pump from the 2006/2007 Christian Lacroix Fall collection, a delicious confection in white, red, and black. The pale, satiny shade of winter is enlivened by a contrast fiery-hot (and also comfortable!) heel and the silver jewel detailing on the black vamp. Style and sophistication–for a price (ahem) undisclosed. Still, beautiful to look at…
And here’s a variation in the same colors, but in a flat and without the jewels, available for $500 at Neiman Marcus:
I agree that they would be kind of hard to coordinate without risking to look too ‘busy’, ‘ornate’ or ‘festive’, but hey, if someone gave these to me as a gift, I wouldn’t mind trying!
Every year it’s the same: I start the season by complaining about the incessant, trite holiday music (how many times can one listen to these tunes without getting a little crazed glint in one’s eye?), and then, little by little, I get into the spirit of Christmas, and sooner than I can understand what’s happening, I have fesitve wreaths hanging on my every door, pine ornaments all over the place, lightbulbs on every rail, and a gigantic Christmas tree decorated to the nth level. And then I shop like crazy and wrap every gift in red and green paper with gold bows.
If you’ve gotten into the spirit of Christmas, too, let me offer for contemplation this beautiful and cheerful pair of Christian Lacroix slingback. A comfortable heel, a fun black-white-red polka dot+tassels combo. Simply poifekt. Less perfect is the price ($574, ouch!), but hey, maybe Santa can be generous this year, no? One can only dream!
