I’ve always been a fan of Dries van Noten; I love his ethnic inspiration, his colorful prints, his inventivity. It’s like wearing a work of art! Same goes for his shoes (well, with one notable exception). The collection he presented for Fall 2008 is equally artful and tasteful. Tell me you don’t want at least one of these pairs for your collection!

I’ve always had a soft spot for Dries van Noten’s shoes; unfortunately, some of his latest creations had filled me with dismay. However, I’m happy to report that the designer is back to his colorful, ethnic-inspired self in the latest runway show. I was simply delighted by the explosion of colors and patterns, expertly mixed-and-matched:

Gorgeous, no? This is one of the rare, rare occasions when I can actually see myself wearing something like this. I know!
The shoes were equally gorgeous, bursting with color and graphic prints, rich in texture and details. Just beautiful!

The Manolo draws attention to these truly horendous trainers Victoria Beckham is sporting:

Upon seeing the horrors, a glimmer of recognition dawned upon me. Why, I had blogged about them a while ago: it’s these Dries van Noten clunkers!

You know, it may be time for Nurse Ratchett to get a style upgrade, but if that’s all $600 can buy her, she should forget it! When I blogged about them, I truly didn’t belive anyone would actually buy them, much less wear them. Oh, how wrong I was proven! I guess swimming in buckets of money would be the devil’s call to try everything at least once. Even as you’re committing undescribable sins against our retinas.

I usually adore Dries van Noten, but these? What in the name of the Holy Manolos (Manolo Blahnik, Manolo the Shoeblogger, and Manolo my hairdresser) is this???

Possibly, a long-lost and now found pair of Nurse Ratchett’s shoes.
If she had no style, that is.
Though on second thoughts, if you were in the business of dispensing the tranquilizing psychotropic medication from the little cups and coordinating severe physical and psychological admonishments for the likes of Jack Nicholson, then perhaps these are, indeed, the right shoes to wear. And look–only $600 a pair, why, the bargains you get working the psych ward!

There’s something about Dries van Noten shoes that makes me irresistibly drawn to them. They’re always elegant and sophisticated but never really ‘girly’. They’re not cute or pretty in the conventional sense of the word–rather, they have a majestic, solid, continental kind of elegance that creates its own brand of timeless. Always exquisitely handcrafted, with an attention to comfort (and you’ve GOT to respect a shoe designer who actually pays attention to comfort!), Dries van Noten shoes will get you noticed–and more than that, will get you the kind of respect subliminally bordering on awe. For yes, they are awesome–just like these stout leather pumps in an unperturbed shade of gold and an exaggerated chunky heel that will firmly get your foot in the door. Also available in a rich shade of black , for $410.
