Cannes 2009

Don’t you love Cannes?  Eleven days of style and red carpet fashion.  Oh Yeah, and films.  Here are just a few of the shoes seen on the red carpet.

These shoes have been a hit with those who don’t want to be seen as playing it safe. The trouble is that they have been seen everywhere.  Variations of this shoe have been seen on Madonna, Victoria Beckham, Kerry Washington (twice)  and Isabelle Huppert.

One of the reasons I love Cannes is because it truly has an international attitude.  The women don’t have that odd wax lip thing going on.  The mature women don’t look like they have a Kabuki mask on.  They have allowed themselves to age gracefully. Right now, Isabelle and Robin Wright Penn are my heros.

I Love, Love, Love the way Isabelle made an odball dress work with these shoes.  Isabelle Huppert in Louis Vuitton Fall Collection 2009.

Kerry Washington at the Amend Charity Luncheon, Cannes 2009.  Kerry wore a gold version of this shoe.

Asia Argento in Armani Prive

Charlotte Gainsbourg wore some amazing Balenciaga Heels.  I have tried to get a large photo, but I am a techno dork, for which I appologize.

Sarah Marshall wore Sergio Rossi’s coil heel.  Do you love these or what??  I didn’t think they were available yet.

Bae Doo-na from Air Dolls wore Steve Madden Gladiator Flats at a daytime press conference. She wore a gorgeous Doir dress later that night.  (I will include the dress just because she looks so great in it. )  I love a girl who goes from Steve Madden to Dior.

Ya gotta include Phoebe.

This Week in Shoes

Posted by Shomore in Sergio Rossi Shoes, This week in shoes

- Ever wonder how shoes are made?  Here’s a behind the scenes look at the making of Sergio Rossi’s red shoe. It really gives me more appreciation and helps me understand why certain shoes can be so pricey! [via Sergio Rossi]

- The next time someone questions you for that expensive shoe purchase, how about referring them to these hideous Xbox shoes.  Sure, they are one of a kind, but I wouldn’t pay $50 for them, let alone $4,000. [via SoftSailor]

-  Twinkletoes touched on recessionista show swapping, and now if you are in the UK, you can experience it as well.  At the Shoe Spectacular Party, guests can meet fellow shoe lovers,  swap shoes, receive makeovers, experience live music and see a fashion.  When is this coming to my city? Spring 2009 Shoes Trends: A Rainbow of Color

Posted by galligator in BCBG Shoes, Boots, Brian Atwood, Christian Dior Shoes, Christian Louboutin Shoes, Costume National Shoes, Flats, High heels, Jimmy Choo Shoes, Loeffler Randall Shoes, Platforms, Pumps, Roberto Cavalli Shoes, Sandals, Sergio Rossi Shoes, Slingbacks, Spring 2009 Shoes, Trend Alert, Valentino Shoes, Wedges, Zappos

While economic events have been a bit dreary over the past six months or so, it’s nice to see that we won’t have to worry about being stuck with spring shoe options that are either conservative or gloomy.

So, what am I seeing at online retailers as well as in every brick-and-mortar store with a shoe section?

Color.

What kind of color? From Payless to Macy’s to Saks, just about every primary, prism-based color is on tempting display.

So, if you like bold colors, then this is the season for you.

Here are some (mostly) high-end highlights.

Red:

Christian Louboutin ‘Madame Claude’ D’orsay Pumps $795 at Saks.com

Valentino ‘Mena’ Day Wear Pumps $695 at Saks.com

BCBGMaxazria Patent and Rafia* Sandals $250 at Saks.com

Orange:

Dior ‘Klimt’ T-strap Sandal $570 at Saks.com

Miu Miu patent leather wedges $570 at Net-a-porter

Yellow:

Christian Louboutin Platform pumps $736 at Saks.com

Brian Atwood ‘Riva’ patent sandals $725 at Net-a-porter

Green:

Roberto Cavalli satin basketweave sandals $915 at Net-a-porter

Brian Atwood Suede Sandals $710 at Saks.com

Blue:

Christian Louboutin ‘New Simple’ pumps $675 at Saks.com

Oscar de la Renta V-Pieced open-toe platform pumps $755 at Saks.com

Loeffler Randal ‘Graphic’ wood platform sandal $575 at Saks.com

Violet:

Miu Miu ‘Sandali’ cork* sandals $585 at Saks.com

Miu Miu suede pumps $495 at Saks.com

Costume National slingback flats $560 at Saks.com

What if you want to play with the whole rainbow instead of just choosing by the individual color?  Well, multi-hued styles are available too. Heck, many of us are just starting to experience 2009’s first rainy, spring-time weather; it’s as good a reason as any to bring your own rainbow to the party.

Nine West Women's Mudpie Platform Wedge Slide

Nine West ‘Mudpie’ bamboo*-wrapped slide $88.95 at Endless.com

T.U.K Rainbow Heart Strap Heel $60.50 at Zappos.com

Jimmy Choo Open-Toe Sandals $825 at Saks.com

Brian Atwood ‘Margie’ rainbow sandals $565 at Saks.com

Sergio Rossi patchwork knee-high boots $1500 at Net-a-porter

Here’s to a colorful and optimistic spring.

* See, you really can’t get away from cork & rafia this year.

Simply Sexy Sergio Rossi for Lucky Size 10

Posted by galligator in Fall 2008 Shoes, High heels, Pumps, Sandals, Sergio Rossi Shoes, Spring 2008 shoes, Zappos

This morning, I want to share this gorgeous little baby with all of you :

Sergio Rossi AU6673.00 $724

Honestly, this is one pretty shoe. I am only barely avoiding drooling over this beauty.

I love the D’orsay styling, the two-tone patent and hair-calf combination, and of course, the cute little bow at the back. The 4.5-inch heel (sans platform) makes this a truly lovely silhouette; though at the highest end of wearability for many of us. It is, however, not available in my size and my pocketbook is truly grateful for this last fact.

However, there is still stock for one of you out there wearing a size 10. Who will it be?

Shoes of the VMA

Posted by galligator in Celebrity Shoe Style, Chloe Shoes, Christian Louboutin Shoes, Gucci Shoes, High heels, Michael Kors Shoes, Michael Kors Shoes, Platforms, Pumps, Sandals, Sergio Rossi Shoes, Spring 2008 shoes, This week in shoes, Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) Shoes

Now that the Video Music Awards are over, let’s look at some shoe highlights.

First up, Britney Spears was the apparent darling of the evening; winning 3 awards as well as the approval of fashion critics with this sensational Versace gown and perfectly matching strappy heels. If anyone knows who made these lovely shoes, please let us know.

Jordan Sparks accessorized her flirty Betsey Johnson dress with black Sergio Rossi sandals. ($695 Net-a-porter.com)

I love Miley Cyrus’ whole look. This cute cocktail dress is perfectly matched by what appears to be the Michael Kors ‘Berkley’ gladiator sandal ($128.95 Nordstrom.com).

And what Red Carpet would be complete without a classic pair of Christian Louboutin Stilettos, worn here by Ciara? At a guess, these look to be at least a 120mm heel height. You can come very close to this look with the 110mm Decollette ($575 Net-a-porter.com).

These Yves Saint Laurent Tribute Platforms icon ($995 Saks.com) worn by Lindsay Lohan are fantastic. Unfortunately they may not be enough to save her in this strangely puckered dress.

I’m not really a fan of Heidi Montag’s off-the-shoulder shift-dress. However, these ankle boots look suspiciously like the Gucci Fall-Winter 2008 Babouska Studded Ankle Boots. A woven version is available online ($1195 Saks.com in black; $1295 pre-order in gold leather at Neimanmarcus.com)

Finally, I don’t hate Tara Conner’s black and white outfit, but it seems almost too conservative for the VMA. However, these Chloe Peep-toe Leather Shoe Boots ($387 Clearance at Net-a-Porter) are one fantastic and trendy set of kicks.
