House of Harlow Shoes from Nicole Richie

Posted by Shomore in Celebrity Shoe Style

Nicole Richie already has a jewelry and clothing line. Today, we were happy to get a first look at the latest addition to Nicole’s fashion empire, specifically House of Harlow 1960 shoes!  Judging from the initial sneak peaks, the shoes, as with the rest of the line, continues to be inspired by Nicole’s love of the 1960s and 70s.   It’s easy to imagine Nicole actually wearing the bohemian looking footwear which consists of geometric patterns and tribal looking shapes.

What do you think of this line?  Would you buy these shoes when they arrive in 2010 and at what price point?

Shoe Showdown: Brian Atwood Lola Pumps

Posted by Shomore in Brian Atwood, Celebrity Shoe Style

Whether or not you like super skinny Rachel Zoe, stylist to the stars, you have to admit Zoe has a pretty keen eye for dressing her clients.  So it should come as no surprise when Zoe issued her first Zoe Report on Brian Atwood’s Lola Platforms, they would be a hit.  Here’s what Zoe had to say about the Atwood’s shoes:

…Atwood consistently brings my sole fantasies to life—and he has outdone himself with the Lola Platform Pumps… sexy elastic detailing and high platform—I DIE.  With fall just around the corner, these shooties* are a must-have transitional piece to help you segue through the seasons. That is, they’re relevant to your summer and fall wardrobe. To the wearer, the possibilities are endless. Lola’s eighties punk-meets-luxury aesthetic will bring your little black dress to life. The pumps are also perfect for upgrading a more casual look (think: dark skinny jeans, a tee and tuxedo jacket), so don’t be scared to rock them during the day.

As these celebrities demonstrate,  this is one versatile shoe. I wonder if any use Zoe as their stylists.

Anyways, it’s time for you to vote in the latest shoe showdown.  Who do you think rocked Brian Atwood’s Lola shoes the best - Katy Perry, Megan Fox, Jessica Stroup, or Brookyn Decker?

Meryl Streep and Julia Child

Posted by twinkletoes in Celebrity Shoe Style, Platforms

I recently went to see Julie and Julia which I enjoyed, in large part, because of the marvelous period costumes worn by Meryl Streep though I have to say her Julia Child accent was also highly entertaining. As we all know, Julia Child was a towering pillar of a women standing at six feet 2 inches with size 12 feet and, for her role, Meryl Steep needed to grow 6 to 8 inches if she wanted to create a fairly accurate portrayal. Needless to say the crew did a lot with camera angles to achieve an illusion of the vast height difference between Streep’s Julia and Stanley Tucci, who plays Paul Child, as well as the other actors in the film. Also, very important, of course, was what Streep wore on her feet. In the film, I noticed that the camera often cut off Streep’s feet or hid them behind picturesque French fruit vendors or similar props. On the internet, it was also quite difficult to come by photos of Streep’s feet in the film.

Of course Streep wore lifts and platform heels to make herself taller, and some of them were pretty intense. These green striped wedges must have been used for a scene when she needed to be standing right next to someone she should have towered over.

When Streep was sitting, she was able to come down a notch or two. These green pumps are a bit more normal.

When she was a lone in a scene she still had to look huge. The props department custom built sets that were a bit shrunken in order to continue the illusion. These hidden platform spectator heels also helped.

It was well-known that Julia Child tended to wear very sensible shoes with low-heels most of the time. And though the need to make Streep taller made the costumes very slightly historically inaccurate, it was definitely necessary in this case. I think the costume and set designers really had their work cut out for them and they did an excellent job. The movie was sweet and enjoyable, particularly the parts set in 1950s Paris. It does bring up a question of what moviegoers think of historical innacuracies in film, especially those that actually endeavor to stick to actual reality.

Here are a few more costumes from the film (no shoes visible unfortunately).

This photo also shows Jane Lynch (famous from Glee, The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Role Models) She was hilarious as Julia’s sister Dorothy.

In learning about this film, I also read that there was a significant food budget for the making of it. While, in the past, food in films was often cut from soap or shellacked into submission, for Julie and Julie the food was not only edible, most of it was exactly what it claimed to be. A rare and expensive brie was in fact a rare and expensive brie. Amy Adams took cooking lessons so she could emulate someone with pretty extensive cooking skills. Pretty fun set!

Christian Siriano is now available online at Payless

Posted by galligator in Boots, Fall 2009 Shoes, High heels, Payless Shoe Source, Platforms, Pumps, christian siriano

Remember how - not too long agowe were anticipating the new Christian Siriano-Payless Shoesource collaboration?

Well, some styles are now available in-store an online.

So far, I am seeing 2 shoe-styles and 1 handbag online:

Christian Siriano for Payless “Slither” $49.99. Don’t expect these to go on sale anytime soon.

Christian Siriano for Payless “Sandstrap” platform peep-to $34.99. This is a cute and classy shoe.

Christian Siriano for Payless “Sassafrass” extra large hobo handbag $34.99. I wonder if that little inverted pyramid-thingy will be the Siriano trademark?

These are cute and I like the idea of supporting new designers - particularly when they are trying to create affordable fashion for the many folks who must stay on-budget every month.

But, online styles appear to be limited ….. Let’s hope there are more styles to be found in-store.

…Or, am I just being unreasonably greedy to get my hands on a pair of the edgy little chain-adorned numbers we saw on the runway?

Now I’ll just have to  try to get some time to go into town today to see if anything has shown up locally. Unfortunately, small-town living may not bode well for me in this instance.

ETA: Another new style just popped up on the Payless site (particularly useful to those who’s local stores never saw any September in-store stock); these certainly weren’t there yesterday morning - Brown snakeskin flats:

Christian Siriano for Payless “Saunter” $29.99

I suppose there’s some of that chain we have been mentioning in the comments below.

Ask the ShoeBlogger: Who designed Anne Hathaway’s Shoe

Posted by Shomore in Anne Hathaway Shoes, Ask the Shoebloggers, Celebrity Shoe Style

Shoe reader Alexandra wrote us asking:

…I was hoping you could clear something up for me. I love Anne Hathaway and I’ve always wondered who designed the shoes she is wearing in this picture.  It is from the 2008 Venice Film Festival, if that helps.

Thank you!

-Alexandra

Dearest Alexandra:

I was completely oohhing and awwing when I saw this dress on Anne Hathaway last year (the dress is by Versace if anyone is interested).  For such a stunning dress, I was happy that the shoes were so classy and understated.  They did not distract from the dress and all it’s beauty.

Unfortunately, I was unable to identify the exact shoe for you.  By now there is a high likelihood that the style has been discontinued by whoever the designer is too.  But, since I love solved mysteries, if there are any shoe readers out there who have better id’ing skills, please leave us a comment.  First person to correctly id the shoe gets a small prize from us.  :)

However, I’d like to recommend an alternative shoe for you.   They are the Via Spaga Lulus.  Although these Via Spiga sandals are not nearly as high or strappy as Anne’s, I can personally vouch for these shoes.  I wore them during my wedding photos since they were more comfortable than my ceremony/reception shoes and they are a good price for well constructed shoes from Italy.  The gold tone has also served me well - I’ve since worn the shoes on several occasions, pairing the shoes with a red dress, black gown, etc.

Via Spiga Lulu for $97 at 6pm.com or $110 at Overstock.
