As the fall 08 ready to wear shows come to a close, Miuccia Prada’s not letting us down easy. If ever there’s someone to be counted on for interesting shoes, it’s Miu Miu (and Prada, too, but Miu Miu’s got a more eclectic, funky style going on). Remember the spring 08 gardening shoes?
Well, fall 08’s answer is here, and it’s fun and fresh, and I love it.
There are pumps that look demure from the front and hyper-architectural from the side.

There are playful peep-toes and pseudo-loafers with metallics and sequins and bright, fun colors that look like they could have come straight out of Candyland.

And, most delightfully to my mind, there are these GORGEOUS boots that were paired up with my favorite outfit of the entire collection.

Now, if only my wallet and body would let me get away with these without screaming in protest.

Every Prada fashion show seems to be pushing the limits of footwear and boldly go where no shoe designer has gone before–remember the Spring 2008 collection, with its extravagant colors and heels taking their cue from a gardening fantasy? This Fall, in Milan, the shoes take a life of their own, and expand in 3D, exploding into ruffles, multifaceted heels, and spiked excrescences slightly reminiscent of the crested spine of the Stegosaurus. It’s no longer the shoe that hugs the foot, but the shoe that embraces, pokes, and explores the space around it. In fact, shoes like these are hardly accessories: rather, they demand an outfit of their own, making your dress look like an accessory. See for yourself:

These are the Prada “Capretto Easy” Mary Jane boots, available for pre-order at Saks for $750. I’ll have to say, they are very original, and although the 4″ stem heel does not inspire me with confidence in their stability on the wobbly streets of Philadelphia, I love the contrast possibilities opened by that big frontal buckled window. Imagine some sparkly tights, or possibly bright red to go with it…then we’re in business! The Victorian row of buttons and the ruffles add to the eclectic feel of this boot.

If I were a butterfly, I would like to land on these pink floral Mui Mui pumps. I can almost smell the scent of the flower applique in bloom. I would not wear you, but you sure are purdy to look at.
Available online at Saks for $465

If you required more proof that the decorated heels trend is here, then I would like to present you with sheer eye candy.

YSL Monaco $860

Christian Dior Jeweled Feather Slingback with Crystal Heel. The next time I watch a rerun of Dr. Zivago, I’ll think of this feathery pump.
Of all the brands that have decorated their heels, I have to say that none has as comprehensive and stunning collection as those seen on Miuccia’s Prada and Miu Miu shoes.

Prada Platform Pump with Girly Flower Crystal Detail

Prada Pump Decorated with Swarovski crystals $750 at Saks

Miu Miu Floral Pump - Seriously, I love the detailed wood craving. $550 at NetAPorter
