Shoes of Project Runway 4.7

Posted by jitterbugbaby in Dolce & Gabbana Shoes, Salvatore Ferragamo Shoes, Stuart Weitzman Shoes

So, this week, the designers had to make a prom dress for the high school girl who picked them. There were some great things up there, and some awful things up there, but mostly things that were neither great nor awful.

Whiny bitch Christian made this dress, which didn’t satisfy him or Maddie, his client. Then he blamed it all on her being picky. Suck it up, baby. You’re the designer. (Can you tell I don’t like Christian?) The dress was over-the-top and the Dolce & Gabbana pony hair leopard print pumps were, too. Maybe they’d be all right with an all black outfit or something more demure, but with this dress, they were way too costumey.

On the other hand, Chris (the King of Costumey) made this very nice dress for his client, Krista. Tasteful, stylish, prom-appropriate, and a great color on her. I couldn’t find the exact shoes on Bluefly, but any number of strappy silver sandals would look lovely with this dress (which has silver buckles on the back that are very subtle and glitzy). Might I suggest these “Ice Rink” sandals from Stuart Weitzman, which are delicate and neat-looking. If you like them, by the way, and you wear a 10 or 10.5, they’re on sale for only $130.

Likewise, I didn’t see the silver sandals Tizi wore with Kevin’s uninspired (and ultimately losing) dress. But these Ferragamo “Strike” sandals have a similar (and I think somewhat funkier) feel.

Overall, I was sort of underwhelmed. Nothing was really egregiously ugly (except for Christian’s), but I wasn’t blown away by anything either. Oh well. There’s always next week.

Ferragamo Creations Shoes from the Archives

Posted by jitterbugbaby in Celebrity Shoe Style, Salvatore Ferragamo Shoes

The archive doors are open at Salvatore Ferragamo.  The Manhattan flagship store is selling some limited editions of historical Ferragamo’s made for the stars.   These shoes are being marketed as Ferragamo Creations and are all being made with the original designs and materials called for.

Want to wear Marilyn Monroe’s heels from “Some Like it Hot”?  Now’s your chance.  Feel like Carmen Miranda or Evita Peron?  You’re also in luck.  And if you want to ape the hyper-stylish Audrey Hepburn, you can pick up a pair of these Holly ballet flats that are effortlessly chic.

When the limited edition numbers are gone, the design will return to the archives, but new designs will be unearthed and created twice a year.

This intrepid Shoeblogger will take advantage of living in New York City and scout out the Ferragamo store to see if I can bring you firsthand pictures of the Ferragamo Creations.  Stay tuned.

Designer Fug: Salvatore Ferragamo

Posted by shoesense in Salvatore Ferragamo Shoes, Walking Disasters

Wth?

These are Salvatore Ferragamo “Prima” leather ballet flats, selling for a handsome $390 at Neiman Marcus.

I’m here to tell you what you already know: they’re ugly. Fugly, even. No, really. I think my late grandmother used to wear something like this in the 80s. But only because she had a diabetic foot.

I’m convinced the leather and craftsmanship are top-notch, but the styling in no way befits the legacy of the man who shod the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren, Rita Hayworth, etc., etc. etc.
