Dsquared2: Bloody Mary Vernice Pump

Posted by galligator in Boots, Endless, Fall 2008 Shoes, Fall 2009 Shoes, High heels, Mary Janes, Oxfords, Pumps, Sandals, Spot the Shoe on Sale, Zappos

What can I say… These shoes are HOT!

Dsquared2 ‘Bloody Mary’ Vernice pump $1040 $751.50 at Zappos.com / $750.90 at Endless.com

(There’s also a knee-boot version and a sandal version of these - but they don’t make me swoon.)

I can’t even tell you just how much looking at these makes me forget to breathe a little bit - these are such insanely hard-core lust objects. (Even hubby thinks these are pretty fab, though he wouldn’t like the price.)

I have had mixed reactions to the great number of studded shoes that we have been seeing over the last 18 months or so. The Gucci Babouska’s had studs that were just too much, too over-sized, and too gold for my taste; the Rodarte’s - too pointy.

But these? I am surprised at just how much I love these. They are like that 3rd little bear with me as a darker-locked version of Goldilocks; these are just right.

Flattened silver-toned star-shaped studs.  Just a hint of Oxford appeal. Wrap-around double-buckle strap Maryjane reference. Mixed-leather textural contrast…..To steal a phrase “I die”.

I wonder if the “Bloody Mary” name is a tribute to the Louboutin ‘Mad Mary’ Studded pump sold a little while back?  I’ll probably never know the answer. Oh, well.

And, with Halloween just around the corner, I find these babies to be aptly named. Strap these onto your feet and even the terrifying Bloody Mary Worth of legend would think twice before leaving her mirror to come after you…unless it was in jealousy over being unable to own a pair of these amazing namesake shoes.

Brian Atwood’s Maniac

Posted by r5bales in BCBG Shoes, Brian Atwood, Endless, Fall 2009 Shoes, General, Platforms, Pumps, Stuart Weitzman Shoes, Zappos

So I was channel surfing last night and saw Kaley Cuoco on David Letterman.  She was wearing these gorgeous purple suede pumps and a little black dress. I couldn’t focus on what she was saying because I kept watching to see if the camera would show her shoes.  Here is a photo as she is leaving the Ed Sullivan Theater, covering the LBD with a satin trench.  Wonderful look.  Love the shiny trench, love the matte shoes.

The shoes are from the Brian Atwood’s 2009/2010 Fall Winter collection.  How beautiful are these shoes?  There are about 6 color variations of this shoe.

Now, I could not find any online but I found some platform pumps that are available online. A few of you have said you have given up on suede because it is discouraging to have your shoes ruined in the weather, so I included a few smooth leather shoes.

Jessica Simpson Parigi  $89 at Zappos

I bought a pair of emergency Parigi’s last April.  They are indeed high; they are indeed dramatic; they do indeed show toe cleavage. They are comparable to other shoes that are the same price.

BCBGeneration Dania $89 at Zappos

Stuart Weitzman Swoon $298 at Endless

and DKNY Hina $140 at Endlless

Notice the thicker heel here, offering better stability.  It has a heel that is about 3 inches so it could be a good work shoe.

Designer Shoe Deja Vu: Dior Knock-offs

Posted by galligator in Boots, Christian Dior Shoes, Designer Shoe Déja Vu, Endless, Fall 2009 Shoes, Heels.com, High heels, Platforms, Pumps

How many of you remember the Dior/Galliano chain-link-and-leather, caged, ankle boots from last year?

Let me refresh your memory:

Well, for those of you who are looking for a (relatively) affordable alternative, Pelle Moda has once again positioned themselves as the ‘designer inspired alternative’ with this boot:

Pelle Moda ‘Karena’ in brown or black; $196.19-217.99 at Heels.com, endless.com, & Shoebungalow

(This was in the hotel boutique when I stayed in Las Vegas last month. Yes, I tried it on. Yes it is an eye-catcher. Yes, I did leave without making a purchase)

Much like the Prada-inspired Pelle Moda shoes that I showed you previously, these are near-knock-offs; with just enough details that are different from the original to keep these from being a 100% faithful copy.

Which do you prefer, the original or the copy?

I actually find that I prefer the copy; the heel is less fussy and allows the chain-link upper to take center stage.

What about you?

A Fall Welcome from Naughty Monkey

Posted by galligator in Boots, Endless, Fall 2009 Shoes, High heels, Platforms, Zappos

It’s Fall, everybody.

Not that you would know it by the weather outside….expected highs in the low 90’s and all that.  But, today is the Autumnal Equinox, and days will be grow shorter and shorter on through December. Goodbye, long and lazy summer days. The endless street-sightings of flip-flops and gladiator sandals are numbered (thank goodness - but that’s just me).

Now we can start planning and looking ahead to wood-fires, hot spiced cider, cinnamon-apples and fall holiday visits with the family; I know I always look forward to this time of year.

And, just in time for fall, I ran across these lovely ankle booties by Naughty Monkey:

Naughty Monkey ‘Cake Walk’ $109.20 at Zappos / $99.95 at Endless

Layered with the warm brown and russet colors of fall, these boots wistfully remind me of seemingly huge piles of just-raked leaves from my childhood.  Did you ever succumb to the temptation to throw all that hard work aside and just jump right in?

This boot is a lot like that. It makes me want to throw caution to the winds and go for it. This boot says ‘hold on and enjoy the experience’; I like that.

Happy Fall, everybody!

Shoe Review: Very Volatile Wedges

Posted by galligator in Endless, Focus on the Shoe Brand, Sandals, Shoe Product Reviews, Shoes.com, Slingbacks, Spring 2009 Shoes, Wedges, Zappos

I have been wear-testing the following ‘Very Volatile’ wedges for roughly the last month.

Volatile USA’s ‘Nobu’ ($74.99 @ volatileusa.com; the Nobu is also available at shoes.com, Zappos & Endless)

They are a great spring-summer sandal in one of this season’s more popular colors - turquoise. These also have an appealing organic design that really works with a spring wardrobe; particularly if you are like me and have a lot of cooler tones in your wardrobe.

These sandals are available in whole sizes 6-10 B US sizing (37-41 EU). Sizing was my first challenge. As a size 7.5 medium who prefers a lot of toe room, the choice on whether to try a 7 or 8 is the first challenge I encountered.   So, I actually tried a size 7 in the turquoise, and a size 8 in black suede.

The good news is that both sizes adjust fairly well in that the buckled slingback and suede material allow for a lot of fine-tuning and comfort on the initial fit. However, the size 7 had more than enough space to accommodate my anything-but narrow size 7.5 feet.  And, while sometimes slingbacks feel like the strap is about to slip off your ankle, these stayed secure through multiple wearings.

How comfortable are they? Well, they did have a brief breaking-in period of about 2-3 wearings of 2-5 hours each.  Each wearing was successively more comfortable than the last; there were no blisters thanks to the soft suede and roomy shape, but I did get a bit of a workout re-learning how to walk on a platform wedge; these have an almost 1″ lift under the toe and about a 4″ overall lift at the heel.  The footbed it lightly cushioned, and after several wearings, this padding started to form to the shape of my arch - an absolute necessity if you have a higher arch like I do.  If you are not ‘blessed’ with high arches, you may have little or no break-in period with these.

Here are some pictures of how these bamboo-wrapped wedges actually look on the foot:

(Yes, I need a pedicure - fast!)

The turquoise color really is fabulous!

You can see here that the size 7 in turquoise is definitely roomy enough for those of us who normally wear a 7.5. And, while it looks like my pinky toe is trying to escape, it never has. The straps and cutouts are placed perfectly to avoid that happening on my feet.

You can see in this next picture that the size 8 is super roomy. I would definitely think someone who is an 8-8.5 would have no problem with this size working for them.

(If you feel the need to put on your sunglasses to view these, I understand - I really am quite naturally pale.  My hubby has joked that since I don’t tan, I actually bleach in the sunlight. But, I digress).

If I have piqued your interest at all, you can find many other styles of  ‘Very Volatile’ shoes at volatileusa, zappos, endless, and shoes.com.

I have to admit, that although Volatile shoes are a well-known regional brand in the areas such as the Southeastern United States (A ‘go-to’ for wedges, flip-flops, and animal prints), I was unfamiliar with them before I stumbled across them several months ago.

As a brand, Volatile has competitive pricing, current styling, and reasonable comfort.  This is particularly remarkable in the current climate of ridiculously rising shoe prices. This makes Volatile shoes a nice value, particularly for ladies on a budget.

And, if you can get both comfort and style on a reasonable budget, I’m all for that.
