Christian Louboutin Deroba Wedge

A lot of ladies, myself included, are no longer dazzled by espadrilles.  They are more than simply done, they seem a little frumpy these days.  They are like the footwear version of capri pants.  For that reason, just seeing the title of Deroba Flannel Wedge Espadrilles ($595 at Saks) by Christian Louboutin may strike fear into the hearts of many readers and seem inappropriate for this cold spell we are having – but little darlings, do not fear.

The master of the saucy red sole has proven how innovative his designs truly are.  These espadrilles are more than one of a kind, they represent a revolution of the style.  The wedge, at about five and a half inches, is fabulous in a retro sort of way, but here it’s the details that really make the style.  The peep toe is small enough that you won’t have to worry if you need to get a pedicure.  The ropes covering the platform offer something modern to balance out the retro feel.  They also complement the flannel extremely well, and thank goodness for that.  Having a pair of grey or black heels is one thing, those are classic.  However, the very essence of espadrilles usually lies in the fact that they are vibrantly colored or violently patterned.  Never monochromatic, they are always seen in technicolor.  Arguably, the bold choice of pairing a grey and black color scheme here could have backfired.  It might have come off as dull and dreary.  However, the very fact that the fabric is flannel, coupled with the details like that charming little zipper, keep this shoe sophisticated and stylish.  Of course, that is why Christian Louboutin is such a huge favorite among shoe-nistas: he takes what is classic and chic, then makes it innovative and edgy in a way that few other shoe designers know how to do.  Thus the beauty of these espadrilles is that they are both fashionable and functional.  You can wear them with something casual or with something dressy.  For instance, I can see them looking great with business dress or with my favorite pair of jeans.

And yes, darlings, you will find that signature, scintillating red sole on the bottom of these wedges.  Christian Louboutin somehow manages to make even the most everyday shoes look amazing.  What’s your favorite style of Louboutin loveliness?

Nylons or stockings. I didn't think I could wear shoes like these in the winter, but pair them with any sexy nylon or stockings and you are ready to paint the town read!

How do you wear peep toes in winter? It's too cold to go without anything covering your feet…
