Honestly, I mean no offense to anyone whose heart swoons when they see these babies. And I give HUGE points to anyone who figures out how to pull these off. But, I don’t get it. Are they dressy or casual? Can anyone tell me the planet, continent or climate where these might be comfortably worn? Sweaty ankles in summer. Wet toes in the rain. Frostbite guaranteed in winter. Oh, and suede? Isn’t that asking for trouble? Perhaps the wearing season is simply very brief; perhaps between 5PM and 8PM for 3 days in September?
I find these intriguing, but ultimately unwearable; although they certainly do draw the eye. Maybe they are actually meant to be table art? That actually makes a bizarre kind of sense.

Summer boots are everywhere here in mild-climate Paris. They tend to worn in the daytime with city shorts/ruffly minis and nice (teenager) legs and sometimes with a loose cardigan. The silouhette of the whole look is whimsical and actually ends up looking pretty good!

These are guaranteed to attract attention when worn. I would call them stage shoes. That is where I would first expect to see them.

Summer boots are fine (although I always wonder if the young girls are missing a bolt since their feet must be godawfully hot), but boot-sandals are just plain FUGLY! In fact, they are fugliness incarnate. I laughed out loud at the suggested limited wearing season.

..Am I crazy for thinking these are ridiculously cute for some reason? Mind you, these would only work for the young and uber-trendy set. But still, arggghhh..
I like ‘em.

THose of you who don’t like these obviously do not know any shoe history. Back in the 1800s, women wear granny boots in all weather. These can only be pulled off by someone young and daring. This is definitely a collector’s item for a true shoehorse like myself. These define sexy in its purest form…I WOULD KILL FOR THESE…EAT YOUR HEART out

So, I bought these flat , thong sandals with the heel to about three inches of the leg covered in leather. I haven’t a clue to what would make them look stylish. Help!
April 21st, 2009 at 3:41 pm
If you have the weather to wear them (not to cold, hot, or wet), these seem like they would be a good match with shorter pencil skirts, denim mini skirts and shorts. Think active-casual. These ankle-wrapped sandals are ‘Statement shoes’. If your is a flat gladiator style ankle-wrapped thong bootie mix (no one really has a universal name that has stuck) , then you need to make sure to get as much visual leg out there to balance out the visual shortening effect that happens with ankle-covering styles. If you are naturally graced with longer legs you may be able to swing longer skirts or capri pants, but shorter skirt or pant styles are probably a better visual balance for most ladies wearing these styles.
Another tip - Grap a digital camera & take a few photos of prospective outfits. It really is amazing how just seeing your outfits in a photo can help you to refine your look & find out what does & doesn’t work for your style & body type.

Galligator, thanks so much for your reply and suggestions. Unfortunately I am short (5′ 3″) but the pencil skirt sounds just like it might work. Again, thanks.

As a short 30-something, I don’t think these are a good idea for me….
