Dsquared2 Skeletal Stilettos, Part 1: Spine Shoes
posted by: brianka in Boots, Fall 2010 Shoes, General, High heels, Platforms, Pumps, Sandals on July 5th, 2010
We (very briefly) showed you these Dsquared spinal cord shoes wayyy back in March. Those of you who were intrigued by that visual snippet will be glad to know that not only have these Dsquared2 fall 2010 runway spine-shoes gone into production, but that they are available for pre-order now at Luisaviaroma for arrival no later than September 30, 2010. Styles currently available include a bandage sandal; a peep-toe, ankle-strap pump; a closed-toe ankle boot; and a taller-than-me wowzer pair of sky-high, thigh-high boots.
Prices range from $1275 – 1650.
*Note to Halloween lovers: ‘Arrival by September 30th’ means that these should be received in plenty of time for those wanting to wear the perfect Halloween statement shoe on October 31st. From the major buzz I have seen since these showed up recently for pre-sale - if you wait until fall to purchase these, you run a true risk that they’ll be long gone.

I like the emphasis that they have taken on these heels that will ensure comfort for long term condition of the ankles. Most heels damage the tendons overtime according to chiropractor adelaide.

Suzanne, do you remember the Saks sale about 2 years ago – right when the recession was hitting hard & the banks closed off a bunch of commercial credit? My understanding at the time was that Saks sold at near & below margin prices to get cash flow in order to buy spring merchandise because the normal business credit for goods was not available from lenders. As a result, NM & several others were forced to follow suit to be competitive in prices … and were not happy about it. The low sale prices made some women question what the true level of markups might be…in response, a lot of luxury houses seem to be using price increases to perhaps make up for lost recession sales. There was also some talk of handbags reaching an upper limit on what most women will pay and that shoes would be the 'next big it item' causing companies to raise prices to see if the market is willing to pay. But, I'm not sure how much increase you can reasonably grab on an item that due to normal wear & tear, contact with concrete & such is likely to have a more limited life span than a typical handbag, dress, or other designer item. If we limit which items we open our pocketbooks for until the prices settle into a reasonable range, the increases should slow down. But, if enough of us buy at full price, they'll keep rising until they stop making $$$. I'm hoping that recent tighter wallets in the aspiring shopper market have helped things to settle down a bit.
As it is, I think I've only purchased 6 pairs of low to mid brand shoes this year. Although I did try to get the YSL Chloris at the Nordies 1/2 yearly sale, but was to late to get them & they were already sold out at 40% off. Guess I'll just haunt ebay for a lower priced Vivier Rose n Roll instead- they still pop up now & then.

What I find strange is that many high-end shoes have come down in price a little due to the recession, which of course makes me question the insane hikes in the first place. But their shoes seem to keep skyrocketing in price, boo!

AWS – I too, hate the tag on these. What's a normal shoelover on a budget to do when the prices just keep going up, up, up?
Suzanne – I hear you.

I saw the elastic looking ones awhile ago, and I've been seriously lusting. Price will keep them beyond my reach sadly. However these are the kind of shoes I would wear for the rest of my life, styles and trends be damned, they speak to me!

My hubby doesn't always like my shoes, but he knows better than to make statement #3. (Per his own admission seeing your comment). Of course, Halloween has been my fave holiday for about 20+ years, so he'd definitely understand that even if I only wore them once per year, I'd wear them *for years* and love them each time. I feel bad about what I'm pondering, but this is one of those occasions where I would be sorely tempted if Pelle Moda pops up with an inspired style with a skeletal heel at under $300. Call me crazy, it won't be the 1st time.

Galligator, I probably WOULD purchase those boots if not for my husband, who is extremely generous and tolerant of my taste in footwear, but has (justifiably) said to me on MORE than one occasion upon peering down at my feet…1. HOW much did those cost me? 2. Are we attending a dress-up party that I'm not yet aware of? And last, but not least…..3. I hope you have a friend who is willing to be seen with you in those because I am not.

Your husband sounds exactly like my boyfriend. You have to ask yourself – if your man won't be seen with the woman who loves him simply because of her choice of footwear, then what sort of man is he?
Next time he wears something you don't like, give him a taste of his own medicine. HAHA.

Kikichiki – to each their own.
Valentina – I know they are costumey, but sometimes that's what makes them special. It's the reason that if we re-do our living room to include wall-to-wall shelves, I will be looking at having the area above them to be available for display. Some shoes are pretty or unique enough, you just want them from a purely artistic perspective, even if you never find a realistic occasion to wear them.
Luckily (or unluckily?) for me, I can't justify shoes at this price range, so I can just sigh wistfully from a safe, window-shopping, distance.

LOVE them, but again, I wouldn't wear these more than a few times at most because they are so 'costumey'.

I love them as well. The boots are too tall for shorty me, but the others are pure lust fodder.
