Finsk!
Posted on April 9th, 2008 by shoesense under Finsk, High heels, Sandals, Shoe TrendsOk, new shoe designer crush alert: Julia Lundsten’s label Finsk just debuted at Topshop and oh boy, do I feel the love! Like most Finnish designs, Julia’s are made with an eye for perfect proportions, simplicity, and good taste.
From the press release we find out that “Lundsten graduated from London’s Royal College of Art in 2003 and won the prestigious Manolo Blahnik Award two years running. ‘Exquisite, divine and perfect’ are just some of the words Blahnik has used to describe her shoes.” If the Divine Manolo says it, you know that it must be true!
In fact, I’m almost afraid that this is a case in which the shoes might be way cooler than myself. I found these framed shoes with birch wood heels on Finn Design Shop:
Her TopShop collection is inspired by Russian modernism. I love these cutout high-heeled thongs, in soft gray and yellow ($380):
I also think these colorblock T-bar sandals are beautiful ($350):
It’s always nice to see a unique voice standing out in the general cacophony of shoe designs, and I hope to see Finsk in American stores soon!
