Fitflops Have Taken Over
posted by: jitterbugbaby in Foot Health and Fitness, Sandals on July 16th, 2008
The fitness craze shoes of yesteryear are certainly MBTs.
But to be on top the latest rage in toning your gams while you walk, you have to be sporting Fitflops.
As a resident of a bustling metropolis full of people who (admit it, it’s true) will cling to ANYTHING trendy, not to mention anything that will supposedly help tone the bod with a minimum of effort, I am seeing these sandals everywhere. EVERYWHERE.
They’re for sale in chichi designer shoe boutiques. They’re on ads in the subways. They’re on every third person’s foot flip-flopping down the sidewalk.
I have no idea if they’re effective. I imagine that uncertainty is pretty widespread. But I do know people are adopting them like Ugg boots.
And just like Ugg boots have the iconic Classic Tall in chestnut to lead the masses, so Fitflops have the WalkStar II in silver (here for $60).

Ladies, if you want to be the cream of the Fitflop trend crop, this is the pair for you. This is the one I see probably twice as frequently as any of the other styles.
Of course, if I were about to go in for this shoe trend, I’d opt for something a little more outside the box. Say, the diva-licious Electra in gold.

Or, if you really want to be a gal in the know, stick yourself on Net-a-porter’s mailing list for the release of the Aurelia, the gladiator-inspired Fitflop that’ll be available online in early August in limited editions in black ($150) or snakeskin ($165).

Good luck getting your hands on a pair, though. They sold out at Kirna Zabete (the NYC store whose owners had a hand in bringing the Aurelia about) faster than your firm calves and thighs could get you in the door.
Gotta say, those are almost funky enough to make me want a pair. Almost.

I don't care – say what you want about them – they are f-ing GREAT! They are the most COMFORTABLE things I have ever worn – no joke. And I have problem feet! I don't know if they actually give you a "work out," but I don't care about that! I also don't care that they are trendy (I didn't even know they were – my mom bought them for me for my birthday). These things don't matter. All I know is, I LOVE EM'!

Hi everyone,
In response to 'shoesense' I'd just like to point you towards the reviews at http://www.thefitflop.com/why. We get hundreds of (unedited) reviews telling us what a difference FitFlops have made to all sorts of conditions like Plantar Fasciitis, Restless Leg Syndrome, Back pain, arthritis, scoliosis and the like. It's truly humbling. Check out a review by Marie that we got last night – wow.
Anyway, we love feedback, good, bad or glowing, so we really appreciate your posts. Keep 'em coming!

FitFlop: one of UK’s hottest new fitness shoes today! Half sexy streamlining, half muscle-toning, the FitFlop is the shoe to have this summer. FitFlops engage your leg muscles more so you get a workout while you walk. I love FitFlop.

I ALSO have seen them EVERYWHERE in Philly where I live. One woman (met in line at the postal office) told me her doctor recommended them to her because of her…wait for it…PLANTAR FASCIITIS (my own personal nemesis). I still wasn’t convinced. Another told me she owns three pairs. So yeah, they sell like hotcakes–and also the price has gone up (they started around $40). Let’s see how it plays out!

I just bought a pair and they DO work. The day after I was so sore in my legs. They're actually kind of cute under jeans, and by far THE MOST COMFORTABLE pair of flip flops I have ever owned!

Just as ugly as Uggs, IMO. Those gladiators are hideous! And, since I live in Fashion Hell, I haven't seen a single pair!
