Every year Footwear News presents their Achievement awards. I was fairly interested in who was recognized because a lot has happened this year in the footwear industry. Here are some of the recipients awarded on November 29th.
The Person of the Year was Christian Louboutin. In his interviews he comes off as a genuinely great guy.
It is amazing to think that a small but loyal group knew his shoes before 2004. When he opened a shop at 59 Horatio Street. It exposed him to a younger hip group who couldn’t get enough of his shoes. Now red soles show up on every red carpet. In 2010 he opened 11 shops and started his online boutique. Growth in 2010. Amazing.
He has collaborated with quite a few designers, the latest being Victoria Beckham. He is beginning a contemporary shoe line called B Brian Atwood. I am very interested in what this line will look like. Some of my favorite shoes are Atwood shoes. Lola is my favorite and apparently with young celebrities.
I have wanted to talk about her since her flagship store (56 Maddox Street) opening in July, but I procrastinate. I have seen her shoes in Neiman Marcus, but have never tried any on. They are beautiful. I love her quirky style.
Blake Mycoskie from Toms Shoes received the Brand of the year.
Toms is a 4 year old brand that has a “buy one, give one” business model. So far they have given shoes to kids in more than 22 countries. What a great guy.
These are just a few of the award winners, but I want to offer congratulations to everyone who received an award.
