While many of us are waiting for the new season of Project Runway to commence, Footwear News and Nine West are in the midst of a shoe designer challenge to tie us over. There are seven challengers and the winner earns a spot on the Nine West design team.
I’ve missed most of the online challenges (the finals are this month), but that’s what is so great about the web, you can catch up anytime. For example, in Challenge 4 each of the remaining contestants had to design a red carpet shoe to accessorize a LBD, use Swarovski crystals, AND complement the style of a celebrity of their choosing.
My favorite of the Challenge 4 designs were by Melissa Cordero. She designed this garden themed mary-jane adorned with Swarovski gold branches. It’s certainly unique and organic. Yet, it isn’t exactly what a celeb would wear on the red carpet, right? Well, when you take into account that it was designed to be worn by Bjork (think swan dress), I can totally see why Melissa was chosen to advance onto the next round.
