Friday Shoe History Corner: Early 18th century Italian shoes
Posted on January 25th, 2008 by shoesense under Friday Shoe History CornerThis Friday’s long neglected shoe history column comes to us via the shoe calendar that some of you won at one of our contests not too far back:
Gold-trimmed Italian latchet shoes, ca. 1700-1720. I love the floral embroidery and certainly admire the pluck of the old-time fashionista willing to teeter on those dangerously inward-curved heels and super-pointy toes.

I don’t think so! They are, I think, from a Museum’s collection–but can’t remember which.
