Gucci: Riddle Lace-up Boots

These are not your Grandma’s boots. And, to a boot-lover like me, that is a good thing.
Gucci Riddle Lace-up Boot $1690 at Saks.com
I love the equestrian-reference of the lower lacing. Add to that the slightly military-feel of the buckled calf details and you wind up with a boot that is not quite granny, not quite riding boot, and 100% fabulous.
I love how these boots feel like an updated classic. They are just fresh enough not to blend in as just another cookie-cutter granny boot, but are still classy and sexy enough that you can easily get years of wear-ability from them – whether they are matched with casual jeans or a hot pencil skirt.
How would you wear a pair of boots like these?

Well, I have been drooling over variations on riding boots for almost 20 years & have also seen variations on the lace-up granny continue to cycle back in & out over the same period of time(so that is why I don't see laces as a particularly trendy detail). Buckle details are a little more cyclical in their appearance on the main fashion scene, but make semi-regular appearances due to the motorcycle boot influences that are always in the background of the shoe world (at least in warmer areas that have nice summer riding weather – Harley Davidson & other riding brands are in their own everyday boot category – much as western boots are never truly out of style). The most trendy part of these is probably the platform/high heel combo – which is less extreme in height than we were seeing last fall and not so blocky as to scream out a particular season or year (like many uber-chunky platform sandals that just scream 90's to me). A flatter heel style is certainly more timeless, but perhaps not nearly as dressy as this heeled variant.
I do know this – If I could afford these, they would easily slide right in among my current wardrobe …. and I would make daily reasons to wear them. But I'm an avowed boot-lover. And, a beautiful, well-made pair of boots is always appropriate in my book – so long as you are comfortable wearing them. I find my own flat equestrian-inspired fall boots are among my most worn and versatile pairs of footwear for fully half of the year – and they are now 5? seasons old. I wear them with jeans, cropped pants, slacks, straight skirts, just below the knee swing skirts and more. They always dress up an outfit in a very subtle way (though I see less women exhibiting that style here in the US than when I was in Europe).
Anyway, I saw every variation of boot styles imaginable at Steam-con recently & really, as long as they blended in with an individual's style, it worked. Boots are just so versatile, that if you find a pair you love in a great brown or black leather, they can really work for you as a wardrobe staple for years.

Just like you said, jeans, straight pants or under the knee length pencil skirt. They are fab. Do you really think with this thread things and buckles, they're classic vowed to lasting for ever?
