Happy Birthday Dr. Martens

This month Dr. Martens will turn 50.  The official date is April 1.  To celebrate, they are releasing a couple of commemorative shoes, the classic 1460 boot, and the three eyelet 1461.  I used to own a pair of  1460 Docs, about ten years ago.  They were my son’s. He outgrew them.  They fit me.  I wore them for years.  I wonder what happened to them.

These boots will be handcrafted in the original Dr. Martens factory in Wollaston, England. (Their less expensive shoes are made in China.)   $200 at Dr. Martens Online

$180 for the 1461.

Details include gold eyelets, lace-ends, heel loops and a metallic-gold footbed. Each style will be limited to runs of 1,460 pairs per color for the boots, and 1,461 pairs per color of the companion shoe.
All shoes will come packaged in a limited-edition box, as well as a certificate of authenticity personally signed by the brand’s founders and owners, a bespoke hang tag and footprint tissue paper.

The shoes will be sold in selected  Dr Martens stores and online.
