Help! I Need New Running Shoes!

In November I completed the Big Sur Half Marathon, and come May I’ll be running Bay to Breakers in San Francisco. This whole running long distances thing is rather new to me, and I need help finding the right shoes. I use to train in a pair of New Balance WR760.
Women’s New Balance WR760 shoes for $99.95 at Zappos.
I like New Balance shoes, but I wore my last pair for way too long and I really felt it after the half marathon.
Currently, I’m wearing a pair of Adidas Supernovas, which I really like.
Women’s Adidas Supernova shoes for $100 at ShopAdidas.com.
I haven’t used the Supernovas for long distances, and I’m thinking about buying a new pair of running shoes to “break-in” before Bay to Breakers. Any suggestions?

Thanks for all the advice! I am going to go to a local running store and be properly fitted. I'll keep you updated!

When you go to your running store, look at Asics Gels. They have several shoes for different running surfaces. I just replaced mine last month.

I completely agree with Rachel! Go to a reputable local running store (not a chain) and let them analyze your gait, your posture, and the shape of your foot. I have been a NIke Triax Structure patron for the past 14 years, but that's because I have a narrow heel and slightly pronate. Let your love of shoe aesthetics go when considering running shoes (man, they can be ugly) and really make technical performance and fit your focus.
And I agree with what Marci said about breaking in your shoes way ahead of your race. As the owner of a local running store where I live says, "Don't wear anything new on race day." Good luck!! Run happy!

Let us know how it goes. Bay to Breakers brings back memories of living in Northern California. From serious atheletes to folks who walk the route & stop every 20 minutes for a 'libation' – it's an institution that's been around seemingly forever.

I would agree with the comment from rachel. Also go to roadrunnersports.com to view a wide range of "distance running shoes".You want enough support & cushioning for a long distance race.
If posting a record time is not a concern, than the more support & cushioning the better. I would also make sure that you break in the new shoes before the marathon, so you don't have any surprises on race day.

I don't usually buy shows in person, but I cannot emphasize enough that YOU MUST GO TO A LOCAL RUNNING STORE. Running shoes are very dependent on the person, and a lot of them have camera things to evaluate your gait and recommend shoes. Go to a good, knowledgeable, preferably independent one.
