Help! I Need Travel Shoes!
Over the next few months I will be taking a number of short weekend trips (Portland, Las Vegas, and California’s Wine Country) and two larger tropical vacations (Hawaii and Belize). Shoe Blog readers, I need your help! I am absolutely terrible at packing light, but this needs to change ASAP.
During a week-long trip to Chicago and Milwaukee this summer, I realized that I always pack way too many shoes (flats, heels, tennis shoes, flip flops, and at least one extra pair). One easy way to remedy my heavy suitcase is to buy lightweight shoes that do “double duty.”
After reading Might Girl’s post on buying a pair of Tieks (which range in price from $135 to $235; the gold pair featured in this post is $165), I’m seriously
considering buying an official pair of travel shoes. For those of you that don’t regularly read Mighty Girl, Maggie Mason is a traveling machine, so I do value her opinion on travel shoes.
But before I buy anything, I want your opinion. Please let me know all of your packing tips and your favorite travel shoes!

If you are looking for a great pair of travel shoes, Chinese Laundry has a great selection! They have many colors and styles and depending on where you are going on your trip, you have a lot to choose from.

After looking at your list of places you are going, they are all fairly casual places. If it were ME packing, I would take a pair of embellished thong/flipflops that you can wear to the pool, out to breakfast and such, and also in the room (I hate walking on hotel carpet.) I would wear those flipflops if I was going to do any goofing/sight seeing/shopping around town. If the flip flop/thongs aren't appropriate on the street or weather, then take a pair of ballet flats, like what you have shown.
I would put in one pair of business sensible shoes with a platform (If that is your purpose for going to these places) that are on the edge of appropriate so you can wear them to your business meetings and out if you hit the clubs or dress-up events. If business isn't the reason then make them your statement shoes.
Do you REALLY need your tennis shoes? I always go with grand ideas of hitting the fitness center, but then never do. If you wear something like Sketchers or Naots to do the airport stuff, you CAN walk on a treadmill – but probably not run. They are easy on the feet because they are well padded, easy to get on and off, and will be kind to your feet if you have worn any blisters.
Think multi-purpose. You will have taken three pairs, but only packed two. Now you know my philosophy when I travel. I may be a bit of a goober, but with the extra money I don't have to pay for over weight bags, I can purchase a pair when I arrive.
