I found my perfect oxfords…

…but they’re $900. Nina Ricci Lace-up vintage oxfords at eLuxury:

Finally, a pair of FLAT oxfords (I can’t wear the super high heels that this season’s oxfords come in) that I think looks good and has feminine flair and is, in a word, beautiful in a gender-neutral way, just the thing to wear at a congregation of, say, feminist academics, or of ridiculously hip hipsters.

But they’re $900, and last time I checked I still needed to pay the rent, and my soul is a black, tortured pit of despair, the end.

Last season Jane Shilton ( in the UK) had fabulous oxfords but they seem to have been withdrawn. However they may reproduce if they receive sufficient requests. Cost about £80. Came in black, brown leather. I bought a pair of 2 tone brown/tan – terrific.

Also see Kate Kuba site for oxfords cost £125

I think that would be really nice, as I agree — the laces are really the most boring part of that shoe.

RZA, thank you! You know, I think I can (and I should) get creative with some of these things. For the Sarto flat, I'm thinking I could replace the laces with some well-chosen contrasting organza ribbon (in purple/mauve, or some shade of blue)–and voila! instant glam make-over for the simple oxford. It could work!

Shoesense, these don't have quite the flair of the Ricci's, but they're 1/10th of the price, and they were lovely enough to catch my eye the other day when a sale email came my way. Also, I've had good luck with Sarto, for the price.

Galligator, that shoe is actually really lovely! Perhaps I'll write about it.

And we do get a lot of comments here that "miss" the point because they do it for self promotion, not to participate in a discussion — so they don't really read the post. Most are caught by our "spamulator." Some aren't, and some are quasi-legit. The first poster is quasi-legit, so …. (le sigh).

Well, I'm not selling anything, but I thought of you when I ran across this today: http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/prod

    And under $100.

Oh, love the 1st poster with the 4-inch heel comment, totally missing the point of those who need or want a feminine *low* oxford.

    Sigh.
