iconic shoes

A few months back, I bought this pair of delicious party shoes from Zappos (before the sad sad advent of their 10% sales policy).
I’ve worn them a few times now, with great delight and to great amounts of comments. They are indeed very sparkly. They do rather catch the eye.
What I’ve discovered everyone says, though, is one thing in particular, and that is that they look like Dorothy shoes from the Wizard of Oz.
That was certainly one of the first things I thought of when I bought them in the first place, so I understand where people are coming from when they say this, even though Dorothy’s were red (in the movie at least… the original written story had her wearing silver slippers, which make mine that much closer) and had a bit of a heel to them, while mine are silver and flat.

This got me to thinking about shoes that are iconic… that are essential to a story or the image of a person that we collectively have in our heads. Dorothy’s ruby slippers is definitely one such pair of shoes.
Likewise, Cinderella was famous for her shoes (or one in particular, to be more specific)
Let’s see… what other shoes are this famous? I mean, one of the actual pairs of ruby slippers made for the movie version of Wizard of Oz sold for $666,000 a few years back. That’s quite a price tag for a pair of shoes! What other shoes can bask in that glory?
