Jerome C. Rousseau is Inspired by Deee-Lite!

I think this man is doing some fabulous things. And right now, this sandal, the Matador, is on sale at Gilt.com for $349.

I love the print on this shoe, of course, but I also really love the straps and complex design near the ankle. Having round aspects up top to match the roundness of the toe shape will really lend balance to this shoe.

I wanted to know a bit more about Rousseau (how lucky he is to have the Swiss philosopher and writer’s name!), so I checked out his website:

“Jerome finessed his design skills for ten years in London and Los Angeles, where he worked alongside Matthew Williamson, Isabella Fiore, John Richmond and John Rocha.

Modern art, European design, pop culture and nightlife are some of Jerome’s inspirations.

Born in Quebec, his interest for design was shaped through art and music.  ‘I started drawing shoes as a teenager after watching a Deee-Lite videoclip.  I was influenced by its unique styling, but it was the overstated retro footwear that first caught my attention.’ ”

A Deee-Lite video! OMG! “Groove is in the Heart” is one of my favorite songs, Lady Miss Kier is a personal style diva icon, and I’m guessing that’s probably the song he’s referring to. Watch the video here to check out the retro stylings.
