Jimmy Choo Niagra Plex Crystal-Adorned Platforms

Um. Oh em gee. Oh em eff gee, even, because I am feeling overwhelmed and frisky and in love. I am well aware that I fall in love with a different pair of shoes once a day, but in a world where there are Jimmy Choo shoes, I hope I can be forgiven. Especially since I am also living in a world where there are Jimmy Choo Niagra Plex Crystal-Adorned Platform Sandals ($2,495 at Saks), which may well be the most breathtaking pair of shoes I have ever seen in my entire life – or in any of my previous lives, for that matter.
Are these not the most drop dead gorgeous sandals you have ever seen? Look at them again. It’s okay, take your time; I’ll wait. In fact, I’ll stare at them with you, no problem.
These sandals are just magical. The clear plexi material makes it look like you’re not wearing any shoes at all, but rather as if you’re simply adorned with crystals – which is the idea, of course. Only Jimmy Choo, lovelies; only Jimmy.
Featuring metallic leather trim as well, the crystals on these sandals are both sparkly and translucent, which creates a truly magical mix. Both the heel and the platform are plexi and clear, so it will seriously look like you’re walking on air. Speaking of, the heel is 5 and ½ inches, while the platform is 1 and ½ inches.
But tell me truly: gorgeous as these sandals are, could you put down over two grand for a pair of shoes? I have to wonder; if I actually had the money to throw around, I might take, oh, six months or so, and just go around buying any pair of shoes I wanted.

I too have fallen in love with those shoes. They were given to me on my wedding day as my cinderella slippers. It makes no sense to spend so much money on shoes – but they truly are a work of art.

I much prefer the crystal covered sandals you showed a day or so ago. Much more practical (in a "could wear them more than once" kinda way, that is!) These…not so much. Too plastic, too over the top and not looking back for me. And handing over $2K for a pair of clear shoes is just not on my to-do list this Christmas.

What can i say. I love shoes that others hate & vice versa. Taste is personal & shoe opinions on this site have made that clear to me time after time.
So….These are not for me.
I confess, that the whole lexan/plastic/plexi shoes that have been coming out of high-end designers over the last 18 months confuses me. What makes a non-leather shoe like this worth $2K when similar pairs for under $100 are often dismissively described as "stripper heels". Is this a yearning for the Cinderella slipper we learned of in youthful fairy tales – and perhaps the trouble-free & eternal love that it implies? But the plastic-y styles that actually come to market continue to fall short of that innocent childhood ideal at both ends of the price spectrum. Most fail to capture whatever elegant effect they are trying for and instead manage to merely look inexpensive at best or tacky at worst. I seriously question the 4 digit price tag on these as they scream factory-made rather than lovingly handcrafted to me. If they were more realistically priced for their materials & value, perhaps I would feel less harsh in my judgement.
