John Galliano Fall 2011

There is so much that can be said about John Galliano and the circumstances surrounding his dismissal. I am just sorry it happened. The line shown a couple of days ago shows his love of the ’30s style. I personally love clothing from that era too. The shoes presented will probably not get a lot of coverage, but folks, they are beautiful. Let’s see what was presented.
My favorite pair is first.
Their front view in black.

The next shoe brought Gaultier’s cuffed pumps to mind.

In black.
These pumps are wonderful.

From the front.
Each pair is equally stunning.
Apparently Mr. Galliano has checked into a rehab center that is nearly in my backyard. Maybe he will fall in love with Arizona and decide to stay here.

(Hit enter when I should have hit shift.) I have been forgiven of worse infractions, so I will not be too harsh in my judgement of JG.

@ Scarlet ….. This is going to sound flip, but a gay Nazi-lover designer would be one of the more harmless people I have in my backyard – a father who killed his daughter because she was not marrying a Muslim, the men who have dumped 3 bodies in my driveway in the past 6 months or the thief who killed my neighbor for $3000. JG seems fairly harmless when you look at it from here.
The Manolo posts have been the best I have seen at articulating the issue at hand. If his is recovery is real, and his views are changed after he is released from the Meadows, you bet I would have him in my backyard.

I am one of the other shoeblog authors here; we rarely share the same taste in shoes or fashion as a whole (with each other, tastes vary). I took R5bale's comments more as an observation on how regrettable that such a situation might happen without making a direct judgement on the events. Wouldn't it be lovely if Galliano hadn't shown himself to be a racist drunk? Wouldn't if be lovely if artists were as beautiful as their creations? I certainly don't read this a letter supporting Galliano's reprehensible views and statements.
I have seen a lot of comments on the whole Galliano situation since it blew up. I don't know if he actually believes the horrible things he spewed, I've certainly never met the man, and if what he spouted represents his true views, I am more than simply disappointed. It is one of those little truths that both admirable and appalling personalities can make beautiful, artistic things. Also, from what I saw of the video, he was deeply inebriated & looks like someone spiraling into a breakdown. This doesn't excuse his behavior, but witnessing a mental breakdown is not going to be pretty under any circumstances, and one can hope that this public ugliness might cause him to re-evaluate some of his views and behaviors. Only time will tell if he can recover or change himself or his views.
The shoebloger Manolo has several posts dealing directly with the politics of the Galliano dismissal at <a href="http://www.shoeblogs.com” target=”_blank”>www.shoeblogs.com where he asks the question "how do we separate the art from the artist" Ultimately, some people will be repelled and refuse to support him or his products. Others will likely overlook his behavior as a publicity stunt or the sign of demented genius, I am one of those who can't separate artist from product once I become aware of things that horrify me. Others make their own value judgements where they perhaps find the art to be redemptive of the artist.

Really? You'd like a Nazi-lover in your backyard just because he's a talented designer? Whoa. Lost a little respect for Shoe Blog. Might i humbly suggest you reevaluate your priorities?
