Join the Band: Everyone Wants to be a Majorette!

Majorette style is sharp and militaristic, but still feminine and sexy. You get the feeling that the majorette kind of girl would march her dates around and they would like it. How could you not want to be one of these cute, tough, in-charge gals?
So I wasn’t surprised when I saw a whole lot of majorette style on Anna Sui’s runway for Spring 2010. But Bergdorf’s band windows really drove the point home.
Want in on that style? A short, flirty skirt or shorts and a military-style structured coat are key. For shoes, short white Western-style boots, especially with tassels, or high boots with straps that look like frets in a guitar. This LAMB Belgrave boot is the perfect example (though, sadly, it’s mostly sold out online except this Ebay listing).
Or you could go straight to the source and buy a traditional leather majorette boot at Spirit Mall for $57.95.

Aww this brings back memories of my small town and the lovely majorettes. I covet their jackets more than the shoes, really.

This is one more slice of the 80's that was assured a comeback after the unexpected passing of MJ. After Michael Jackson's death & the brief but intense resurgence of his videos, the military styles on the market increased dramatically. They will enjoy maintain a slightly longer fashion appearance than some of the other 80's influences being seen since military designs are also fairly popular among the steampunk crowd whose influence is also appearing among mainstream fashion at this time.
A bit of a perfect storm for majorette & military in mainstream looks.
BTW, I loved everything about this boot (except the price) the 1st time shoeblog wrote about it, and I still love the grey suede Fendi that is a close cousin to it.
On a positive note, the LAMB has been just long enough that ladies on a budget will probably be seeing lower-end copies or inspired styles within the next 6 months – which is good for the trend and our budgets.
