Mercedes Benz Fashion Week - Marc Jacobs and Rodarte shoes
Posted on September 11th, 2007 by Shomore under Fashion Week, General, Marc Jacobs ShoesAs New York Fashion Week marches on, I must admit that I haven’t been overly impressed at the shoes seen on the runway. I’ve just been yearning to see something other than the gold sandal, patent peep-toe, oxford, etc. Even this fierce, studded sandal by Rodarte made me yawn (Victoria Beckham worn a similiar pair of shoes earlier this year).

Other shoes by Rodarte were worth a meer raise of my eyebrows. Studs and zipper aren’t anything new.

Marc Jacobs to the rescue. I must find a video of the models wearing this shoes as I simply don’t see how it’s possible to walk in them. The pumps are really floating on air, devoid of support. The heel looks like it was placed in the wrong position. Nevertheless, it’s interesting to look at and well, different than what I’ve been seeing on the runways. I’m looking forward to seeing what other shoes Marc Jacobs had up his sleeve.

Actually, I’ve seen this shoe concept at United Nude: http://www.unitednude.com/shop/shoe.aspx?ProductID=97. It’s the so-called office chair shoe (Manolo blogged about it, I think)–and the idea is similar, floating in the air, somehow, while the heel goes lateral or something. The ones you showed look more stylish, although I bet they’re not that comfortable!

Here’s another version, I guess we’ll call it this one the office chair boot. http://www.shoeblog.com/forums/walking-disasters/225-weird-shoes.html
What makes the Marc Jacobs version most interesting to me is that I’m actually seeing someone who is wearing and walking in one. I always though the other versions were for artistic value only.

There are only so many ways to make a shoe. Why would you want a shoe you can’t walk in? Sticking the heel in the middle of the foot…come on. And were you asleep during the Rodarte show? Those shoes were amazing!

I just bought these today. They are actually super comfortable and they are so cool and different. Im not sure the science behind it but it works!

Those Rodarte shoes are the best. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
