Versace Metallic Strappy Platform Ankle Boots

First off, happy New Year! I hope y’all are as excited about seeing what 2011 has to offer in fabulous footwear as I am!

Of the many things I love about Versace, the brand’s ability to create classy shoes out of the more flamboyant trends is pretty high up there. I am a huge fan of metallic shoes, but there are times when they just look really bad. Playing with metallic designs is a risky game because it is so easy to go really overboard. In my (not so) humble opinion, however, the Versace Metallic Strappy Platform Ankle Boots ($765.99 at Saks) does it just right.

If you keep up with the latest trends, then you probably know that the winter months of 2011 will be devoted to metallics, in shoes, clothing, and accessories – but I am far more concerned with the shoes. Versace is getting this footwear trend off to a lovely start with these ankle boots, which really aren’t like ankle boots at all.

The color, clearly, is not the only reason I find these platforms so innovative. That silhouette is just gorgeous. These look more like platform pumps with a strappy little cage for your ankles attached to them.

Although the self covered heel is quite thick, it is actually characterized as a stiletto, and it measures out to 5 and ½ inches, or 140 millimeters. However, the double platform, which is also self covered, is good for an inch. The shaft of the cage is about 5 and ½ inches high as well, and will fit a circumference of up to 9 and ½ inches. This all comes together with a super pointy toe, which really works with these boots.

What do you think about this cage detailing? Do you think these shoes would be wearable – or comfortable, for that matter?

And just as a P.S., Saks has these on sale right now, down from $1,095. As a P.P.S., check back tomorrow for another dose of metallic madness!
