Mihai Albu’s Over-the-Top Shoe Confections

posted by: brianka in Fall 2010 Shoes, General, High heels, Platforms, Pumps, Sandals, spring 2010 shoes, Winter 2010 on June 26th, 2010

Have you seen, read,  or heard about Mihai Albu’s architectural shoes? The styles are, for the most part, imaginative, extreme, crazy, wild, wearable-art pieces.

In other words: Statement Shoes.

Via the  Mihai Albu website:

Mihai Albu TT 103-SW  [1199 RON/$350 USD] *

Okay. I know this first shoe isn’t really all that over-the-top or statement-y. But it is available for purchase online, so I thought I’d include it anyway. For the real show-stoppers, I thought I’d leave them as a surprise after the break.

Are you ready?

The following three styles are also all showing as purchasable via the designer’s official website. The shoes below without links are from the SS 2010 or FW 2010 collections and are viewable via the Mihai Albu website; although at the time of writing this they do not show at the online boutique.

Mihai Albu TT160 [1199 Ron/$350 USD]

Mihai Albu DD-Mix [1249 RON/$360]

Mihai Albu TT Bijoux [3999 RON/$1155 USD]

Sigh, leave it to me to fall for the one pari that I couldn’t afford even in my dreams. I wouldn’t even need an occasion to wear them. I’d just take them out of their box and cradle them like precious children.

I wonts let anyone hurts you, My Precious….

Okay,  I’m putting my geek flag away now to show you a mini-gallery of other amazing styles for which I haven’t located retail sources:

* Conversion is based on today’s RON:USD rate of approx 1 Ron: 0.29 USD via Coinmill currency calculator. Contact the designer and your local customs office directly for shipping, taxes, fees, and customs rates from Romania/at destination which may apply should you wish to inquire about making a purchase.

Valentina – the last pair also remind me a lot of the Kirkwood 'Alice in Wonderland' shoes made for display at Paris fashion week earlier this year. More art than shoe, particularly on the Bijoux pair.

April – I used to think $350 was expensive (and let's face it, it used to be), but now that's considered the beginning of mid-range. I'll still pass on most shoes that are over $200 (Because YOOX & other sites can help keep prices low if I am patient). The problem is when you are a salebuster like me & look at an art shoe at $1200 & think, 'Is there a way I could get those & put them on display?' … you know you are in trouble. But, I am on a shoe diet for another 6 months, so it's unlikely these'll still be around when I look again. Probably for the best, but still, *sigh*

Ok, as probably intended, some of those shoes confused me. My favorite are the sandals with the tassels. And the last pair look like they'd be great for a wedding. And the black ones with the creepy spider look appropriate for a wealthy witch.
