Spring 2008 Milan Fashion Week: Fashion or Science Class?

Those of you who grew up in the USA are probably familiar with the classic middle school science project: the balsa wood bridge.
Jil Sander may be German, but she has clearly drawn her inspiration for her Spring 2008 footwear from this project. Just look at these shoes from her show in Milan

I don’t know. Judging by those models’ toes, it looks like Jil’s shoes aren’t even supporting the weight of one very thin young woman, let along a pile of exercise weights.

I got these shoes.
grey with pink heel, as you can see from the pics,
they tend to destroy the fingers, completely.
but the design is fantastic

Look at the gray shoes toes! Is the pinky toe getting killed or something?

Beautiful shoes…they gray are my favorite…but look number 2 blue…..those toes are the strangest and look really gross. How can you come to a show and not be prepared?

while they do not look all that comfortable, you can really appreciate the design. i think they're great and even though they would hurt my feet, i wouldn't mind, cause I'd look fabulous!

Oh dear. Look at how bruised the toes are. The heels are unique, but not spectacular.

They also have yucky feet. Don’t models get pedicures?!?!

I have had to stop wearing a number of shoes recently in my size of EU 36 or US 6 because of toe torture like that pictured above. My toes aren’t so wide that they should be cut off by straps or that I should be forced into the Wide shoe category. Get it together shoe makers, toes need to be able to move, make shoes for walking!

I was going to post about those toes. The pinky one on the first model seems ready to fall off any minute now. I like the inventiveness of the heel, but the shoes are really torture devices. Do you see how the toes turn white where the strap cuts into them, cutting the blood supply? It’s really painful to look at. As for the first two–I presume years of improper footwear caused all that damage. It just doesn’t seem worth it.
