My New Favorite Store in Santa Cruz: Stripe Design Group

The Stripe Design Group (107 Walnut Ave, Santa Cruz, CA 95060, Phone: 831-421-9252) is my new favorite place to shop on the Central Coast. If I could live in the store, I’d pack up my apartment up tomorrow and make myself comfortable on Stripe’s mid-century modern couches!
The most exciting part of Stripe’s incredible and constantly changing inventory is the selection of good condition vintage shoes! I’ve spotted a lot of Ferragamos amongst the displays of pumps, sandals, and boots, most of which are priced under $50. They also have a wide variety of sizes (a friend that wears size 5.5 was particularly excited at all the shoes in her size).
Here’s an aerial shot of the magic that is Stripe courtesy of Yelp.
And here are some close-ups of the shoes taken by Yelp user Tracy P.

‘Only for the super cool kids! normal people don’t even bother!’
Stopped in here once to grab a little knick-knack of some kind for my girlfriend’s birthday. They have a bunch of little things like that…well, I couldn’t decide what to get (it was between a little wind-up dinosaur and a scarf-thing), so I decided to ask one of the sales girls. She looked me up and down and then rolled her eyes at me! I was shocked- Look, I know I’m not mr. cool or anything, but really? What followed was an uncomfortable interaction in which I just gave up and walked away. I then saw the sales person walk over and say something to some kids on the couch and they all started giggling- wow. great. thanks.
So, unless you’re really the coolest-of-the-cool, i would suggest avoiding this place. It just seems like more of a hang-out than any kind of actual store. My girlfriend likes some of their displays and stuff, but after I told her what happened, she agreed that it’s a silly place. I don’t consider stripe a part of the community, and I certainly won’t be suggesting them to anyone in the future.

Samuel,
I am so sorry that you had a negative experience in my store!
I would like to invite you back to have another look. We do support many local artists and designers and consider ourselves as a community based business.
I like to say that we pride ourselves in excellent customer service so I am frankly baffled by you description of events!
Perhaps you would like to come in with your girlfriend and ask for me (Suna) or Dana and we can offer you a gift for her on us from our selection of hand crafted jewelery?
Hope to see you soon!
Suna
