Nina Ricci Patent Open Toe Sandals

I’m not usually that big a fan of patent-leather shoes, or of retro-chunky platforms.  But, the shape and line of these almost makes me forget that they are just a little bit thick in the heel.  I find myself falling for them. Hard. They look all smooth and swooshy & I just want to touch them, hold them, and look at them.

Crud.

Everytime I think I have this shoe-thing beat, some totally unexpected style comes along and shows me who’s really in control (or rather, how little my brain has over my emotions when it comes to shoes).

Oh well.

The softened contours are tricky, but seem to be key in keeping things on the feminine side.

AEJ – you gave me my first belly laugh of the day. Thank you.

Val & Helena. I didn't think of Fleuvog when I first saw these, I was too entirely enchanted by them to look beyond their fabulousness. But, yes, I can definitely see where there are some Fleuvog-like lines. Fleuvog is one of the few designers who actively and regularly tries to combine chunky and graceful elements into one shoe – with varying levels of success. The softened contours are tricky, but seem to be key in keeping things on the feminine side.

Valentina I was going to make the same comment! I saw JF in these as well. Especially the "Attention" line. I am smitten withthe N.R. shoe above and many others that she has brought us.

I'm in shock…I think I like them (especially in profile). Am I seeing possible John Fluevog inspiration here? Galligator, what say you?

My middle name is "retro-chunky platforms". It was a strange choice for my parents, but strangely fitting, as it turns out.
