Alexander McQueen Spring 2010 Shoes
Posted on October 7th, 2009 by Shomore under Alexander McQueen Shoes, Fashion Week, Shoe Trends, spring 2010 shoesAlexander McQueen’s Spring 2010 runway collection was a statement about the future of our world. More specifically, the meltdown of our world due to global warming. McQueen’s version of Waterworld showcased mankind as alien-like creatures forced to adapt/evolve and live in the sea as the polar ice caps have melted. Out came clothing in reptilian prints and sequins to mimic fish scales. The fantasy heels on the runway looked like they were out of this world - or at least this land. They were super high, skeletor-like and featured interestingly curved booties designed for the the animalistic and bold.

On a side note, Gilt Groupe is having an Alexander McQueen accessories (shoes, bag, wallets) sale today. The collection is decidedly more tame, but not nearly as interesting.

Brilliant. So creative. Wearing those may help me making friend with anacondas and other amazonians pets.
Like the bronze droid-like heels.

These are shoe-museum/art pieces. They look insanely heavy and uncomfortable. But, they are a visual feast. I would love for BATA or some other shoe museum to have a chance to preserve some of these.

It’s just going to end up being translated into obnoxious 80’s style print booties and poof dresses.

[...] Alexander McQueen showed his new spring 2010 shoes on the runway in Paris and, I have to say, I just can’t stop looking at these shoes (which were reported on Shoe Blog). Totally unwearable in real life, but absolutely mesmerizing. I mean, they look like a cross between some crazy-valuable vase and some exotic wild creature you just discovered out in the wild. In-SANE! [...]

Alexander McQueen is one of my very favorite designers but some of these shoes do remind me so much of foot binding, I don’t care for the structure. I do find the embellishments beautiful.

They are definitely not for everyone but no doubt they are works of art. Hats off to McQueen for having the talent and the artistic guts to introduce something completely different to the fashion world. Lady Gaga’s looks fabulous in her new video wearing several pair from this collection. I am sure Madonna is boiling that she did not discover them and put out a video wearing them as well cause she and Gaga are the two women who can totally get away with these.

Western shoe designers should revive footbinding; many fashionistas would be the first to follow the trend.

Wow. I don’t know if that comment is serious or tongue in cheek. I have no doubt that if some women are paying for toe surgeries & collagen injections to the ball of the foot that indeed, some women would embrace footbinding. But, I like to believe that most women are like me & in search of the perfect, wearable, comfortable, sexy shoe. I know they are out there, because I own a few. But, companies use so many different shoe lasts that finding the brand that fits for a given individual can take years…and one hopes they never decide to change their master lasts.
In the case of runway shoes, many of them are more conceptual art than realistic footwear. I take them in that vein. Some designers are more interested in seeing how far they can stretch the concept of footwear as an artistic form/media than as a utilitarian item. I appreciate their concepts but rarely find them to be wearable.
Back to footbinding…so many women nowadays will wear heels at work or an event but keep a pair of ‘backup flats’ in their handbags for actual walking that I think most women will only sacrifice so far for fashion….much like most women wear makeup and only a smaller number go so far as to employ plastic surgery.
