Balenciaga Spring 2010 Shoes

Balenciaga‘s runway shoes always leave me with extreme feelings – I either love the shoes or hate them, it’s never a lukewarm reception.   To understand why, just have a look at this compilation shirt of 9 Balenciaga runway shoes.

Some of the shoes Nicolas Ghesquière sends down the runway are downright hideous, like that lego colored shoe that Beyonce seems to favor.  Others are sheer genius (love the bottom 4 futuristic shoes).  For the spring 2010 season, these Balenciaga soles were seen on the runway.  Can you guess which extreme I instantly veered toward?

If you guessed two thumbs way way down, you were right.  They even make the lego shoes slightly more palatable.   I have no love for the striped,  peep toe booties which Ghesquière joked were, “like Play-Doh” nor did I feel any love for the hand-knitted ankle boots.  Excuse me for being practical, but aren’t spring runway shoes meant to be worn for warmer weather?  A mid length ankle boot like this will only make a petite woman like myself look even shorter.

So what do you think about Balenciaga’s spring 2010 shoes?  Am i way off base here?

I refrain from telling other people they have dreadful taste when they simply have a different aesthetic and/or style than I do. I would probably never wear these or the so-called lego shoes simply because they do not reflect my own style. I wear shoes & styles that make me feel “more me”. On someone else, my style would look contrived.

I say more power to those whose style & wardrobe can succeed with more avant-garde styles. However, I will continue to note when designers seem off the mark on their main consumer base.

Shoes as art are fine, but there is a line where art may overwhelm utility. And, like it or not, most women need their shoes to stay utilitarian enough for their everyday life.

Balenciaga is perfect for those performing on stage. They have an image to sell and maintain (a la Beyonce, etc.) They normally have a larger-than-life stage persona where there is an expectation to take fashion steps & risks that would just be out of place for the everyday woman.

clearly you have dreadful taste because those balenciaga lego shoes are amazing and creative. I also like this new ones for the same reason. And they make shoes for the design, it’s not their fault we have normal human legs who can’t pull them off unlike ana selezneva

Not my fave. But remember, skinny jeans are in & there is a whole new generation of ladies who are tucking in jeans. These look like they were designed with skinny jeans in mind.

……..Which, to my husband with a history of western-wear is one of the greatest cardinal fashion sins. lol. He is a member of the ‘One should never tuck your jeans into your boots’ school of footwear. It’s not negotiable for him.
