Project Runway 5.3 - Shoes on a Budget
Posted on August 6th, 2008 by galligator under Chinese Laundry, Designer Shoe Déja Vu, High heels, Oxfords, Platforms, Pumps, Roberto Cavalli Shoes, Shoes of Project Runway, Shoes.com, ZapposWell, after episode two’s rather bland shoe offerings, last week’s episode three was a definite improvement.
I have been drooling over the Gucci “Eva” wingtip platform pump and booties since I first saw them at the Gucci website last fall. Unfortunately, even at Bluefly’s best sale prices, these have yet to drop below the $450-500 range. This is just too rich for my blood - and my bank account.
So, I was happy recently to find several reasonable and affordable alternatives to satisfy my attraction to the basic style of the Gucci originals.

- Bongo “Square Dance” $46.00 at Zappos.com:

And, for those of you attracted to the green Cavalli sandal already seen on several episodes, Chinese Laundry has this affordable copy. Which, interestingly enough, seems to come in just about any color except for green.
- Chinese Laundry “Mika”, $63 at Zappos. In black, red, royal blue, and white:

I love the challenge of finding affordable styles for those of us who are on a budget or who live in small towns where we see very little variety. I hope these help you to look like you just walked off of a fashion runway.
And as for tonight’s show? I’m hoping to start seeing stronger designs tonight, both in footwear and in fashion.

Shopping top brands at reasonably affordable prices is definitely every shoe lover’s choice and aspiration.
The shoes you mentioned in above post are very stylish yet affordable for every buyer. I like the “Bongo Square Dance”.

since when is almost $200 a reasonable price? well i guess compared to Gucci it’s alright (altho they’ll be out of style in like 3 minutes) I rather enjoy the Bongo ones

I certainly understand that $189 is not cheap for most folks. But, my intention is to offer stylish alternatives for those who love current designer trends but can not justify sales prices that are upward of $400 or more. If I budget carefully, I might decide to take the very occasional $150-$200 splurge and forgoe a few other lifestyle purchases such as eating out. Also, the Report shoe is one that I think is lovely - If I am patient and careful shopping around, I may find this toward Fall at a fraction of it’s starting price which could tip the balance towards a purchase(I recently found a Report ‘Dita’ for under $100 - a significant savings from the original retail price). As it is, this particular shoe also fits my personal style & retro sensibility, so I would wear it beyond its actual ‘trendy’ period and be happy doing so. This is, however, another good reason for many of us to look for less expensive alternatives when following any current fashion trend.

Well, the price is really a little high, but….I think they deserve that.
We are a veryyyyyyyy famous brand in China, but I don’t think our shoes are not as good as those internaltional brands .We even have a branch in Las Vegas,U.S.A.
