Runway to Retail: Alexander McQueen Floral Wedges

Sometimes more isn’t always better, sometimes it’s just more.*

…On the other hand, sometimes more is fabulous. And, I say, bring it on.

You do remember these ornately-carved, gilt-bedecked shoe-confections that the McQueen label, under the creative direction of Sarah Burton, showed us  for their Spring 2011 McQueen runway, don’t you?

Of course you do.

Well, if you have been saving your pennies, you might be able to grab yourself a pair of these decadent darlings (or perhaps the matching clutch?).  Although, at a $1995 pre-order for the clutch (available in black or gold) and $3495 for the wedged sandals, these babies will run you quite the hefty bag of pennies indeed.

*Sigh* As if I were actually expecting to buy these…not so much.  All being a good girl and maintaining a healthier budget aside, these were always destined to exist only in my mind’s  ‘dream closet’  rather than having a legitimate chance at stepping into my real-world collection (No, I didn’t write that as a pun, but now that it’s out there, I’ll run with it…and there I go again, oh dear!).   Plus, as I’m not Lady Gaga and have little chance of winding up on any red carpet, ever, my occasions to wear such outrageous pairs of shoes are woefully rare.

I suppose  I’m still too pragmatic to spend this kind of money on a shoe…even one that, when hubby first saw them in runway pics, “Those aren’t shoes, those are art”.

Meanwhile, I am sending happy thoughts to the shoe-maven who scores a pair of these and creates even one occasion to flaunt them.

Oh, and speaking of art, the sculptural details on these shoes reminds me of  crashing waves and brings to mind Boticelli’s’ “Birth of Venus”….Which seems somehow fitting to me.

*Brownie points to the person who can tell me what movie this line is from.
