Shoe Deja Vu: Atwood Maniacs vs. Chinese Laundry Whistle
posted by: Shomore in Designer Shoe Déja Vu on July 20th, 2011
While I don’t condone knock offs of designer’s original designs, I can understand that Brian Atwood’s Maniac (left) pumps aren’t exactly affordable for most gals and could cover part of this month’s rent. So, for those that have been requesting it, here’s a similar yet different shoe for you – the Chinese Laundry’s Whistle pump in an elongating patent nude color.
Brian Atwood Maniacs for $580 at Saks
Chinese Laundry’s Whistle pump in patent for $69.95 $38.95 (see deal tip below).
Tip: Get in on today’s Groupon Flash Sale. For $29, you get $60 to shop online at Chinese Laundry. Shipping is free for purchases over $100.

I own the Whistle by Chinese Laundry and I absolutely love them. I can wear them from day to night and you cannot beat the price.

The double-stitched toe is starting to appear in other brands in a variety of colors. I'd be willing to bet that in 6 months, we'll have our choice of brands & colors in a similar style without them being conscious knock-offs of the Atwoods. Of such details to micro-trends begin in fashion.

I like the original more. And it seems the Chinese ones have a malformation on the platform.

Well, I have tried both these shoes on and the Steven Madden pumps and the Pour La Victorie (Irina) that look just like this. I will be honest, the Maniac felt best, looked best and "walked" best. The Whistle pump hurt my feet the minute I put them on, the sole looked ripply, and when I walked the left foot kept twisting over. An ankle waiting to twist. The Steven Madden pump was a little better, but not by much. The Pour La Victorie came the closest at the price at $250.
