Dsquared2: Bloody Mary Vernice Pump

Posted by galligator in Boots, Endless, Fall 2008 Shoes, Fall 2009 Shoes, High heels, Mary Janes, Oxfords, Pumps, Sandals, Spot the Shoe on Sale, Zappos

What can I say… These shoes are HOT!

Dsquared2 ‘Bloody Mary’ Vernice pump $1040 $751.50 at Zappos.com / $750.90 at Endless.com

(There’s also a knee-boot version and a sandal version of these - but they don’t make me swoon.)

I can’t even tell you just how much looking at these makes me forget to breathe a little bit - these are such insanely hard-core lust objects. (Even hubby thinks these are pretty fab, though he wouldn’t like the price.)

I have had mixed reactions to the great number of studded shoes that we have been seeing over the last 18 months or so. The Gucci Babouska’s had studs that were just too much, too over-sized, and too gold for my taste; the Rodarte’s - too pointy.

But these? I am surprised at just how much I love these. They are like that 3rd little bear with me as a darker-locked version of Goldilocks; these are just right.

Flattened silver-toned star-shaped studs.  Just a hint of Oxford appeal. Wrap-around double-buckle strap Maryjane reference. Mixed-leather textural contrast…..To steal a phrase “I die”.

I wonder if the “Bloody Mary” name is a tribute to the Louboutin ‘Mad Mary’ Studded pump sold a little while back?  I’ll probably never know the answer. Oh, well.

And, with Halloween just around the corner, I find these babies to be aptly named. Strap these onto your feet and even the terrifying Bloody Mary Worth of legend would think twice before leaving her mirror to come after you…unless it was in jealousy over being unable to own a pair of these amazing namesake shoes.

Designer Shoe Deja Vu: Dior Knock-offs

Posted by galligator in Boots, Christian Dior Shoes, Designer Shoe Déja Vu, Endless, Fall 2009 Shoes, Heels.com, High heels, Platforms, Pumps

How many of you remember the Dior/Galliano chain-link-and-leather, caged, ankle boots from last year?

Let me refresh your memory:

Well, for those of you who are looking for a (relatively) affordable alternative, Pelle Moda has once again positioned themselves as the ‘designer inspired alternative’ with this boot:

Pelle Moda ‘Karena’ in brown or black; $196.19-217.99 at Heels.com, endless.com, & Shoebungalow

(This was in the hotel boutique when I stayed in Las Vegas last month. Yes, I tried it on. Yes it is an eye-catcher. Yes, I did leave without making a purchase)

Much like the Prada-inspired Pelle Moda shoes that I showed you previously, these are near-knock-offs; with just enough details that are different from the original to keep these from being a 100% faithful copy.

Which do you prefer, the original or the copy?

I actually find that I prefer the copy; the heel is less fussy and allows the chain-link upper to take center stage.

What about you?

A Fall Welcome from Naughty Monkey

Posted by galligator in Boots, Endless, Fall 2009 Shoes, High heels, Platforms, Zappos

It’s Fall, everybody.

Not that you would know it by the weather outside….expected highs in the low 90’s and all that.  But, today is the Autumnal Equinox, and days will be grow shorter and shorter on through December. Goodbye, long and lazy summer days. The endless street-sightings of flip-flops and gladiator sandals are numbered (thank goodness - but that’s just me).

Now we can start planning and looking ahead to wood-fires, hot spiced cider, cinnamon-apples and fall holiday visits with the family; I know I always look forward to this time of year.

And, just in time for fall, I ran across these lovely ankle booties by Naughty Monkey:

Naughty Monkey ‘Cake Walk’ $109.20 at Zappos / $99.95 at Endless

Layered with the warm brown and russet colors of fall, these boots wistfully remind me of seemingly huge piles of just-raked leaves from my childhood.  Did you ever succumb to the temptation to throw all that hard work aside and just jump right in?

This boot is a lot like that. It makes me want to throw caution to the winds and go for it. This boot says ‘hold on and enjoy the experience’; I like that.

Happy Fall, everybody!

Steve Madden ‘Bevan’ ankle bootie

Posted by galligator in Hot Shoe Deals and Steals, Spot the Shoe on Sale, Steve Madden Shoes

Last Monday, after picking me up at the airport, my hubby was kind enough to stop by Nordstrom as a way of killing time before meeting for dinner with the in-laws that evening (Our little town doesn’t get any fancier than Macy’s & TJ Maxx).  So, we did the mall walk-through, ending in the Nordie’s shoe department …. Oh, do they have other departments?

Anyway, they were just enough new boots on display to make me both excited and impatient for fall to be here already.  And, there was one purple ankle bootie that had hubby again acting the enabler to my shoe habit - All purple suede and a funky-tough zipper trim. “Hey Babe, you don’t really have anything in purple, do you?”.   (Really, this is why I can’t take the man shopping with me: I can say no to myself, but he has a bit of a tougher time of it….Of course, I suppose a gal could have worse issues to deal with than a hubby that wants to see her happy.)

And, I have to admit, I don’t have anything in my shoe-closet quite like this:

Steven by Steve Madden ‘Bevan’ $99.90 $168.95

But, I was good and didn’t try them on. After all, we had dinner plans and had the whole next day free before we needed to head back on the 3-hour drive back home.

Um, maybe not so good. Apparently, Nordstrom re-set their entire women’s shoe department overnight and these babies were nowhere to be found in-store come Tuesday.

But, all was not lost.  While no longer available at the local Nordstrom (I have a feeling The Rack could be seeing these shortly), a quick search at the Nordstrom website had these showing on sale for about $70 off. So, I guess, that’s not such bad news after all.

Now, at $100 these are a much better value than when they were at their original $170-ish pricing. Plus, Madden’s are a great fit on my higher arched feet; they are almost always true to size and ready to wear without my needing to run to the store for arch inserts.

And let’s face it. They’re purple! Maybe it’s time to dust of my Nordstrom’s card.

(Oh, and in case you are interested in these, they are also available in several other color and leather choices at Steve Madden, Zappos, and Endless)
