Happy Birthday Calvin Klein

Calvin Klein was born November 19, 1942, in the Bronx, New York.  He was raised in the borough’s Mosholu Parkway section a middle-class Jewish community of first and second-generation immigrants.  In 1968 Klein launched his own clothing company that was inspired by the style of New York’s urban youth.   We can’t forget the uproar caused by his jeans ad with a 15 year old Brooke Shields.

Here are some Calvin Klein Shoes for fun.

Britney Spears for Candies

Posted by r5bales in Flats, General, High heels, Platforms, Pumps, Sandals, Slingbacks

Candies has just released photos from their  fall campaign featuring Britney Spears.  A video with Britney singing for Kohls will be released later.    These photos are just wierd looking.

I can’t even focus on the boots because of all that pink straw.

This looks like a high school photoshop project.  Step 1: Insert tent.  Step 2: Insert fence.  Step 3: Insert horse. Then color leg wraps pink.  Step 4: Insert Britney Spears.   Odd.  Just odd.

Anyways, Kohls is offering a half off sale on their Candies shoes.  Here is what is offered.  Phyliss for $30.00 in black, pink and white.

Gabriella for $28

Drue Dress Pump $25

and finally, because we all know just how much trainingheels loves cork:

Flora for $25

The Pamela Wedge for $24

What Would (A Broke, Mod) Audrey Wear?

Posted by trainingheels in Celebrity Shoe Style, General

Demure. Coquettish. Words that have never been in my shoe vocabulary. In New York, maximum city that it is, more is more. But of course, there is a limit. I am getting a little tired (gasp!) of all the metallics and all the summer flashiness of neon. I love new shoes that invoke a classic, vintage image, and I think we could all use classic for years in this economy.

I saw a woman yesterday on Grand Central’s 4/5/6 platform wearing a pair of sky high hot pink patent stilettos with gold tipped heels that were straight out of the Playboy Mansion and screamed “LOOK AT ME!” She was also wearing a hot pink top to match.

Picture this…

Except with a gold heel and in combination with a blouse similar to this dress. I <3 you to pieces, Decades, but I wouldn’t wear your dress with hot pink heels, and I don’t think you would either.

Ladies, is this really what we’ve come to to attract attention in a crazy city, neon AND stilettos AND shoulderpads? I like the strong shoulders, but I am not going to do those three things at the same time, for god’s sake.

Shomore quoted Andre Leon Talley being ready for women’s sky high shoes to come down a few notches, and even Patricia Field has been quoted in WWD as being ready for a return to what’s “refined” and to “simplicity.”

Who’s more classic an icon in New York than Audrey Hepburn? I would wear almost every single one of her outfits from her films and most of the ones she wore in her real life too. So I went searching uptown for the kind of shoes (a young, modern discount diva version of) Audrey would wear, and snapped a few window photos in the 50s and 60s that would give me inspiration for cheaper shoes to look for online.

French Sole and London Sole are great places to get a little bit of your Audrey style on in a young-ish, daytime, flat heel style.

Apparently, for some, looking like Audrey from the head down to the toes isn’t enough. This shoe has Audrey hand-painted onto it.

Here’s one of my favorite designers, Signore Ferragamo himself, with a lovely pixie Audrey.

Sam Edelman from Coast to Coast

Posted by trainingheels in Jeffrey Campbell, Sam Edelman Shoes

Sam Edelman is on sale in New York and San Francisco, and I’m sure in other places. I’ve always liked the flats, but I’ve never bought a pair.

These Edelman flats were on sale at David Z on Broadway in New York. I would wear all of them — they’re all chic and would blend from work to night.

These quieter puppies were in a shop in the Marina in San Francisco, the name of which immediately escapes me, unfortunately:

Have you worn Edelman flats? Are they a staple in your wardrobe? And are they comfy, or do they so utterly lack arch support like so many flats that you need to put inserts in them? I have a French/London Sole addiction, but they almost always require an arch support insert because they’re so very flat.

I also loved these Campbell flats, on sale at David Z as well.

Hello, I am pretty! The Jeffrey Campbell Bring Old Bronze for $94.00:

So, How was your Holiday?

Posted by galligator in Athletic Shoes, Comfort Shoes, Flats, Harajuku Lovers, Shoes.com

Here’s hoping that Christmas was wonderful for all of our readers. Did you get the shoe of your dreams? Or, maybe you just had some great time off with your family over the holiday.

As a grown-up who generally budgets & makes her own purchases, Christmas is definitely more about family togetherness & keeping up the Santa mystique for our kids.  Sure, I wouldn’t say ‘No’ if Santa put a pair of double-platform Louboutin’s under the tree, but I’m not disappointed when reality steps in.

So, what did I get for Christmas?

1. A very generous gift certificate to Amazon.com (Which my hubby is trying to convince me to use on actual books rather than shoes, Go Figure. I’ve gotten some of my best shoe deals at Amazon. Really.)

2. A box of Frahlinger & James salt water taffy from back East. Childhood memories in a box. Yum.

And

3. The Harajuku Lovers 5-scent gift-pack with a freebie promotional charm bracelet featuring each of the Harajuku girls (Love, Angel, Music, Baby, & G).

Yes, I am a shoe-obsessed gal who happens to be a HL fan-girl.  Sure, I loved No Doubt. Then I loved seeing Gwen using the Madonna handbook to pop-stardom. But, of her fashion lines, I seriously love those cute little Harajuku Girls & the HG branded perfumes, watches, handbags, and shoes.

Of course, I was going to get around to shoes.  Harajuku Lovers is the casual alternative to the Lux L.A.M.B. line. Given my on-going attraction to graphic-styled shoes, an interest in this brand shouldn’t really be too much of a surprise.

So, what styles are have drawn my attention?

There’s always the Gwen-favored Rasta colors, but they really don’t match anything else I own. So, not these:

Harajuku Lovers ‘Dub’ Kogal Low-Tex $64.99

Well, this one has ‘my girls’ on it, but it’s just so …. PINK. Still not quite me.

Harajuku Lovers ‘Be Mine’ High Tex $75.00

Ok, subtle it ain’t, but I don’t own any Rainbow-colored shoes. These definitely shout out ‘Fun’.

Harajuku Lovers ‘Rainbow’ Kogal Low Tex $65.00

These little high-tops have the Varsity Juku girls and would match a snap-front sweatshirt hanging in my closet. Definitely tempting.

Harajuku ‘Harajuku High’ Kogal Hi Tex $75.00

But, I am also really liking the Harlequin diamond-patterned low-top with just ‘G’wen. A little throwback to Vans patterning from - well, let’s just say it’s been awhile.

Harajuku ‘Harlequin’ Kogal Low Tex $65.00

So tough deciding . . . I also really like the signature black and white stripes on this final pair. A common touch to the interior of L.A.M.B. shoes and handbags, it’s nice to see the stripes on the outside, for a change.

Harajuku ‘Train Stripe’ Low Tex $51.99 $64.99

I am most tempted by the final two pairs. Of course, the last one is also on sale … and that is almost like Christmas for a  bargain-lover like me.

So, how about you, was your Christmas shoe-filled and joyous?
