As the onslaught of fashion shows continue, it wasn’t just my eyebrows which were raised when I saw how tall the shoe platforms were. Here’s a quick look-see.
The Japanese inspired spring collection over at Basso & Brooke brought an array of colorful prints, the highest of the platforms I’ve seen thus far for spring 2009, and obi belts that I’m dying to own. As if to signify that the heels were as tall as trees, birds and flowers were nesting on the heel.

Gucci’s spring ‘09 collection bought forth buckles, metallic trimming, and bold colors on top of platform heels.

Marni Spring 2009 shoes featured interesting striped knee high socks an array of colorful platform shoes.

D&G Spring 2009 got patriotic in red, white, and blue nautical theme clunky platform wedges.

Bottega Veneta incorporated their classic weave pattern into the platform wedge and heels. Compared to other runways, the platforms looks downright walkable.

And finally, Burberry Prorsum picked up the platform trend in autumn colors and ice-pick like heels.

Now that the Video Music Awards are over, let’s look at some shoe highlights.
First up, Britney Spears was the apparent darling of the evening; winning 3 awards as well as the approval of fashion critics with this sensational Versace gown and perfectly matching strappy heels. If anyone knows who made these lovely shoes, please let us know.

Jordan Sparks accessorized her flirty Betsey Johnson dress with black Sergio Rossi sandals. ($695 Net-a-porter.com)

I love Miley Cyrus’ whole look. This cute cocktail dress is perfectly matched by what appears to be the Michael Kors ‘Berkley’ gladiator sandal ($128.95 Nordstrom.com).

And what Red Carpet would be complete without a classic pair of Christian Louboutin Stilettos, worn here by Ciara? At a guess, these look to be at least a 120mm heel height. You can come very close to this look with the 110mm Decollette ($575 Net-a-porter.com).

These Yves Saint Laurent Tribute Platforms
($995 Saks.com) worn by Lindsay Lohan are fantastic. Unfortunately they may not be enough to save her in this strangely puckered dress.

I’m not really a fan of Heidi Montag’s off-the-shoulder shift-dress. However, these ankle boots look suspiciously like the Gucci Fall-Winter 2008 Babouska Studded Ankle Boots. A woven version is available online ($1195 Saks.com in black; $1295 pre-order in gold leather at Neimanmarcus.com)

Finally, I don’t hate Tara Conner’s black and white outfit, but it seems almost too conservative for the VMA. However, these Chloe Peep-toe Leather Shoe Boots ($387 Clearance at Net-a-Porter) are one fantastic and trendy set of kicks.

Waaay back in February, Rhianna, Camilla Belle, Ali Larter, and Debra Messing were all seen in Gucci’s Sevigny shoe (the shoe was named after the actress Chloe Sevigny). For me, it’s hard to pick which actress wore the shoes best since I admire all four for being able to pull off the thick ankle strap which tends to shorten the legs.

The Gucci Sevigny is available at Neiman Marcus for $695.

Zappos carries a strikingly similar style by Nine West called the Olavera for $93.

This Gucci deal was updated on our holiday coupon guide, but since it is so rare for a luxury brand to have a sale on virtually all their super spectacular inventory, I thought it deserved its own post.
On Tuesday, November 20, 2007 (today for all you in the east and midwest) , Gucci.com is have a special holiday shopping event. All purchases at Gucci.com will automatically receive a 10% discount at checkout (except for the UNICEF Holiday merchandise).
There are a ton of beautiful goodies on display, but there were a few that stood out for me. Keep in mind that I’m in the holiday mood and I’m still hunting for the perfect outfits to wear to the holiday parties that I’ll be attending.
Gucci Gold Kelly Pumps- This would really make the little black cocktail dress pop. I’m a fan of the gold knot at the top. Originally $560 but now on sale for $504.

If your holiday outfit is sparkling and you need a more basic shoe, I like these black Gucci pumps with swarovski crystal accents on the heel. I imagine they would be a closet staple for years to come and the crystals give the classic black pump instant, but still understated, glam. Originally $650; One sale for $585. There’s also a peeptoe version of this shoe in case you want to show off your perfect pedicure.

And since no outfit is complete without the perfect date and handbag/clutch, I’m in love with this feminine and radiant purple snakeskin clutch with mink tassels and swarovski crystals. Original price is $1280 but it is not on sale for $1152.

If the color isn’t to your liking but the style is, a gold version is available for a sale price of $805.5.
