Is Victoria Beckham Totally Crazy or Totally Awesome?

So maybe the real answer to the title of this post is a resounding “Both!” The question was inspired by her recent attire at the launch of the Beckham Signature Fragrance Collection at Macy’s Herald Square in New York City this weekend.

The Evidence:

Posh and Becks at Macy's

I’m sorry, perhaps you did not get the full impact of this here photo. Take a closer look.

Victoria Beckham 1

The Trial:

Defense: As you will see, Lady Posh has lifted an outfit entirely from the Antonio Berardi Fall 2008 runway line. It’s fits beautifully, because let’s face it, Posh can wear the hell out of outfits! And she is all about the crazy high heels!

Prosecution: But she isn’t wearing any heels! Those rubber stockings/boots (yes, they are connected!) have platforms, but are completely heel-less, giving the impression that Posh is balancing all her weight on her tippy toes. That’s not high heels; that’s just crazy.

Def: We of the defense are not the first to laud Miz Beckham for her courageous footwear choices. Let me draw your attention to her Elle editorial from 2008. Here are the shoes that she wore in the highly discussed spread:

Victoria Beckham Elle

Pro: Yeah…those were pretty cool. But wait - they have HEELS, albeit ones that don’t actually touch the ground! The point we are making here is that heel-free shoes are against nature.

Def: It’s not like she’s the first. Marc Jacobs sold a ton of those backwards heel shoes last season. (Still available on Net-a-Porter for the low, low sale price of $660)

Marc Jacobs backwards heel

Pro: Oh yeah - those were so cool. I mean crazy, they were crazy. I must stick to my guns…

Def: And Vogue’s Stephanie La Cava wore these fantastic Dior Couture uber-platforms to the Whitney Art Party in June and people are still talking about it. See how we are still talking about it?

Dior Couture Stephanie La Cava

Pro: I WANT those! Where can I get some. Wow - they look a lot like Posh’s Elle shoes. She’s such a trend-setter. I can’t believe you got to me like this. Ok, she’s crazy AND amazing. We should make a movie about her finely tuned sense of fashion insanity. Must…go…shopping….!

The Verdict: After long deliberation the jury has decided that Posh is both crazy and awesome. Sure we knew that already, but the evidence was too good to pass up.

Victoria Beckham in flats?!?

Posted by Shomore in Celebrity Shoe Style

Do my eyes deceive me? After seeing these pictures of Victoria Beckham in flipflops, I had to look outside my window to see if pigs had started to fly.

The woman who wears the towering stilletos, these Dries Van Noten cluckers to a ballgame, and recently said “I have joined a gym but can’t bring myself to start. I can’t bring myself to wear flat shoes!” looks like she is actually in flats.

Good heavens, did I wake up in some alternate universe today?

Ten Tips for Walking Comfortably in High Heels

Posted by Shomore in Sergio Rossi Shoes, Shoe Advice

Sergio Rossi Aisha Strauss; $799 at Zappos

Love the heels but can’t bear the pain? In the latest issue of Marie Claire, Sergio Rossi’s creative director Edmundo Castillo offers shoe advice for walking comfortably in high heels.

1. Change heel heights several times a day. Feet and legs shouldn’t be allowed to mold themselves to any one shoe shape.

2. Shoes are an emotional accessory; hurt your feet, hurt your feelings.

3. Befriend a salesperson who will tell you if a shoe will actually feel as good as it looks.

4. If you feel all the weight in the front of your foot, this heel’s your arch enemy — literally.

5. Your foot needs to sit in a shoe. If you can wedge two fingers between your sole and the shoe — bye-bye!

6. Platforms should be no more than one-and-a-half inches high — or you’re dangling off a cliff.

7. Think Cinderella: A heeled shoe must fit perfectly. Faking it with the wrong size will get ugly. (Hmm, I think Victoria ‘Posh’ Beckham didn’t get this memo. Didn’t she once say If they don’t have my size I just stick toilet paper in…If that’s what it takes to get a nice shoe.’)

8. Don’t shoe shop with swollen feet — e.g., when it’s hot or right after exercise

9. To elongate your legs, ankle straps should sit above the ankle bone.

10. Still wobbling when you walk in your heels? Practice!

The advice makes practical sense to me. Well, except for #1. I’d love to change heel heights every hour but my shoe wardrobe is not extensive enough, my purse can barely fit my wallet and cell phone much less allow me to carry spare pairs, and my pant lengths would look goofy if I switched from a 6″ to a 1″ heel.

Spring 2008 Shoe Trend: Neon Colors

Posted by Shomore in Shoe Trends

Neon colors are back. Just take one look at the new spring 2008 shoe arrivals and it’s hard to miss the neon trend that will be sure to keep anyone out of the dark.

Both the price ($760 and $745 respectively) and the neon pinks were dazzling on these Christian Louboutin Neon Pink Slingbacks and Foil Ring Slides.

Less spectacular in height but not in color are these bright yellow patent flats by Taryn Rose.

And if you like to stick to one style but vary the color, Nine West has the Lovable flats in fuschia, coral, and aqua.

But proceed with caution.   While neon is sure to make an outfit pop, the key to wearing neon shoes is to use a little discretion.  Go heavy on the white, creams, navy, or black pieces and then add that neon shoe.

Otherwise, you might end up glowing like Posh.

Dries van Noten redux: Not you, Posh!

Posted by shoesense in Celebrity Shoe Style, Dries van Noten Shoes, Walking Disasters, Wedges

The Manolo draws attention to these truly horendous trainers Victoria Beckham is sporting:

Upon seeing the horrors, a glimmer of recognition dawned upon me. Why, I had blogged about them a while ago: it’s these Dries van Noten clunkers!

You know, it may be time for Nurse Ratchett to get a style upgrade, but if that’s all $600 can buy her, she should forget it! When I blogged about them, I truly didn’t belive anyone would actually buy them, much less wear them. Oh, how wrong I was proven! I guess swimming in buckets of money would be the devil’s call to try everything at least once. Even as you’re committing undescribable sins against our retinas.
