NY Fashion Week Spring 2010: Tony Cohen and The Claw

Yesterday, r5bales showed you Christian Siriano’s new shoe collection, which will eventually be reimagined for Payless. His last collection was toned-down considerably for sale to the general public, so it remains to be seen what will happen to his newest heel innovation: The Claw.
To recap:

But it seems that Siriano is not the only designer to have decided that The Claw is the way to go for Spring 2010. Tomy Cohen, who showed his deconstructed collection at Bryant Park yesterday, seems to have embraced a similar aesthetic. Check it out:
Admittedly, Cohen’s Claw is not nearly as pronounced as Siriano’s (we are talking about CHRISTIAN SIRIANO here), but it still doesn’t look that stable to me.
So tell me, what do you think of The Claw? And while you’re thinking about it, check out more of Tony Cohen’s collection as well as the Larare for Tony Cohen footwear collection.

Honestly, I detest the claw. I would NEVER wear it or anything similar and the look of it makes me cringe! Sorry, Siriano. I've seen bloggers adopt the look and they have embraces it cupcakes and cashmere has a pair) but even after a few months of seeing it it still makes me want to throw up a little in my mouth.

How about a double claw, as designed by Bart Hess a few years back: http://www.virtualshoemuseum.com/vsm/o.php?id=780……

I would have a hard time purchasing a pair of the Christian Siriano shoes as shown here. Physics would tell you that the heel would have some serious engineering application to make them stable. Something I doubt Payless ShoeSource would pay for, and still come within the target price range.
The Tony Cohens are beautiful and I think would better withstand the force that hits the heel. The first pair looks more precarious because the shoe is too large for the model.

I have to agree with R5. The 1st thing I think of with these is how difficult it might be to walk in them. The heel-balance must be perfect to avoid instability issues.
Sure, they are visually interesting, but the further back the heel, the harder is is to walk in most shoes. I'm not sure how long it would take to get used to how differently the weight would hit the ground while walking in these.

While the style is unique, I still don't find them attractive.
