I don’t know what it is about Wellies, but I love them to death and I am dying to own a pair. My one problem is that most Wellingtons look a little too clunky, chunky, and masculine. I’m all for androgyny, and love tailored men’s clothing. I frequently wear ties and prefer cologne to perfume. When it comes to shoes, however, I prefer something with a feminine edge. Nobody knows how to take the masculine and make it feminine like Valentino, and a perfect example of that gift can be seen in these absolutely adorable Lace-Effect Wellington Boots ($295 at Net-a-Porter).
I want these boots. Like, I want to start saving up right this second. They would be a practice purchase. I mean, I live in New England. If it’s not snowing, then it’s raining, especially in the spring. Plus, they are unquestionably fashionable. Just look at them! Done up in black and a subtle blush pink, they feature a gorgeous lace effect, just like the name implies. While they would unquestionably look fantastic with your favorite pair of jeans, I can’t help but think that they could look great with just the right kind of skirt as well. Then again, I might be weird.
These boots are pull-on, so you can easily get them on and off. The heel is about an inch – or 20 millimeters – long, and they feature the signature Valentino stamp on the side. You can definitely make a statement in these Wellies, and it won’t have a thing to do with the weather.
What do you think about rain boots as fashion statements? Any shoe lovers from across the pond, what’s the deal with the popularity of Wellies? Is it true just about everyone owns a pair?
