What Do You Remember: First Kiss or First Shoes?

Footwear News tells of a survey of 1,000 women conducted by the shoe storage Website Tszuji.co.uk. This survey shows that 92 percent of women polled said they remember the first shoes they bought with their own money, while only 63 percent could recall the name of the first person they kissed. Ninety-six percent of women said they regretted throwing out a pair of shoes after the fact — while only 15 percent regretted kicking a former boyfriend to the curb.
Well, I guess I am one of the 92 percent. My first “own money” shoes were a pair of 3 1/2 inch kidskin pumps, the color was “Moonstone”, purchased September 1981. HOW in the world can I remember that? My first job was a teaching job and I used money from my first paycheck. Moonstone was a sort of blue/black color with a silver sheen to them. At the time, I wanted them to exactly “match” my clothing, so they didn’t seem to match anything. I got rid of them about 1985 or 86. I wish I had a pair of shoes that color today. These are not the shoes, but they look a lot like them.
My first kiss. Um… Maybe Steve B? I can’t remember.
The survey is a bit unfair because a first kiss usually comes much earlier than first “My own money” shoes, and it was conducted by a website that caters to shoe fans. Getting rid of old shoes vs getting rid of boyfriends: I don’t think I have regretted either.
What do you remember, your first pair of “my own money” shoes or your first kiss?

That makes sense to me but does this?

Definitely my first kiss. And the first luxury shoes I bought. But they weren’t my first wholly owned shoes.

R5 – Thom McAn. Wow. They don't have actual storefronts anymore, do they? That's a page from my childhood. I definitey remember going into the Thom McAn store with my mom & getting measured for new shoes. It was probably my 1st brand awareness in stores beside Woolworth's & Thrifty's. Memory lane……

The first pair of shoes I can remember buying on my own with my own money were a sexy pair of BCBG black patent leather pumps with a silver buckle going across the toe. I could not wait for these to go on sale and bought them for full price at Lord and Taylor for just over $100. My parents were so angry; but for the moment, my life was more than fulfilled.

My first HEELS were a pair of white platform chunky heels, 1976 from Thom McAn. My mother bought them for me after I helped her with a party. They had a 40s look to them. I was hot stuff when I wore them.

My first “my own money” shoes were Nike tennis shoes for track my junior year of high school. I quit 1 month after buying those shoes… I think I still have them, almost like new!
My first kiss… I believe it was at the Switchfoot concert at the Indiana State Fair 2004. Chad? I think was his name.
My first DESIGNER shoes I bought were BCBG Max Azria’s my first month working at Nordstrom. I saved up for months so I could buy them on sale! 50% off and still over $100! I love them to this day!
Even if they were crappy tennis shoes, I definitely like my first shoes better than my first kiss!

Back in the day when I wanted to fit in and wear what all the cool junior high kids wore, I bought a pair of plaid patterned Vans. Since they cost me a couple weeks worth of allowance, I treated them ever so carefully. I barely wore them because I was scared they would get dirty. As for my first kiss, honestly I can't say that I recall. Did I subconsciously block it from memory?

I remember my first kiss!,whew. He was a cutie too. The first pair of shoes with my own money was a pair of shell top toe addidas in the 6th grade. And i barely wore them because i have never been a big sneaker fan. But i loved Run DMC and had to have them to wear to their concert in 1986. And what is a 6th grader doing at a huge rap concert??Well my older cousins convince my parents after i begged for months. So i went, loved every minute of it. But i had never been up so late before so I slept most of the next day. Thanks for the flashback memory. lol

I *think* my 1st pair of shoes with my own money were a pair of 1/2 inch black, kitten-heel pumps size 6 1/2 from Payless that I wore into the ground (my 1st heels were a lovely tan patterned leather 3 1/2 inch heel my mom bought for me to wear to MUN that killed me by the end of the 1st day of debates, those were also my 1st pair to be donated in my a closet sweep at age 19 or 20 years old; pretty just isn't enough to keep shoes).
My 1st kiss was a shy senior named Bob Hanz (let the jokes commence) that my sisters pushed me into dating when I was a freshman; we went out 2 or 3 times. The kiss was awkward & to my knowledge at least 2 of the aforementioned sisters were watching the event through the house curtains. Big families have their own rules, I suppose.
